I was labelled with ‘BPD’ before I was 18, because I was being sexually exploited. The MH team said ‘it was a form of self harm engaging in risky sexual behaviour with older men’ - I know 100% that label allowed my abuse to continue. It wasnt until a DV charity picked up what was
What would happen if we saw school related distress as feedback on the system? As a psychologist, I meet many children who are distressed by school. Usually I’m being asked to change that. Can I make them less anxious? Can I make them attend without protest? 1/
But She's So Capable! (with @_MissingTheMark). When I was a trainee clinical psychologist, I worked in a clinic with children who were anxious and depressed. The children would come in, pale and withdrawn. Often in school uniform as they'd been brought out of school see me. 1/

Emotional dysregulation (meltdowns, shutdowns, irritability, outbursts, depression, anxiety...) is NOT a behavior issue.
And if you treat it like one, instead of solving the problem (whatever is actually causing the behavior), you'll end up making it a whole lot worse.
@proudcyborg I say I am dysregulated. My sensory processing and emotions are not in balance, which could just improve with time and/ or effort, but if it increases significantly I might have a meltdown
#AskingAutistics is there a good word for the 'pre-meltdown' state, where you're already overwhelmed and distressed, but a meltdown isn't yet inevitable? (1/4)
