🚨JUST IN: Edwin Sifuna removed as Senate Deputy Minority Whip, replaced by Eddy Oketch.
When the father dies, the loved child is the first to be sidelined. It’s a story as old as time.
Oburu & his group can strip Sifuna of titles, but they can never take away his star.
Baba's absence is already being felt, but the real ones know Sifuna is the future. All shall be well. 💔
You’re not just a tea-fetching errand boy in Junet’s office but also the physical embodiment of wasted opportunity. A grown adult with the intellectual range of a teaspoon, proudly orbiting power you’ll never understand, let alone influence.
You mistake proximity for relevance, yet all you’ve mastered is how to hover silently, waiting for instructions like a piece of furniture that occasionally blinks. Competence is clearly a foreign concept to you.
What’s truly tragic is not your position, but your comfort in it. No ambition, no curiosity, no spine just blind loyalty packaged as usefulness. You’re not part of the conversation; you’re the background noise people tolerate while serious minds actually shape outcomes.
On this day in 2021, the application deadline for the ODM 2022 presidential candidates arrived. Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya @DrOparanya and Hassan Ali Joho @HassanAliJoho had long submitted their applications and paid the requisite Kshs 1 million nomination fee.
But there was no word from Raila Amolo Odinga yet.
The next day, the media carried the headline that Raila had beaten the deadline last minute. The story was withdrawn on 2nd April as a Fools Day joke. Drama for the ages.
The story teaches us that March is too early for declarations of presidential interest for an election happing in August of the following year.
Your preferred candidate might be where Raila was on this day in 2021.
I didn't know Hustler Fund has a CEO whose name is Henry Mutai. He wants to spend 300 million shillings to convince Hustler fund defaulters on the importance of repaying the outstanding Ksh 12.5 Billion. Such an honest man.
Senator Sifuna: Raila will never forgive Ruto for what he has done to ODM, which is now unrecognizable. We used to be the party that fought for the people. There is no document binding ODM to UDA. It expired, and its extension is illegal
It is shocking that after a whole day, the only thing @DrOburu_O had was a Font 50 statement, five paragraphs on ten pages, saying nothing that members didn't already know.
Surely, you can't send party officials to an exclusive coastal resort to "review ODM at 20 and Agenda 10 items". That is a typical WhatsApp call conversations.
Besides, if Beatrice Elachi can be allowed to bring goons into an exclusive facility like Vipingo, then why not hold the presser in a public place so that there is a proper contest on who has the people? A secure facility is either secure in full or not secure at all.
The CC should also be honest and declare that its attempts to remove @edwinsifuna were scuttled by members of the commitee. This agenda pushed by just two people, who have captured Oburu, will not succeed, because it must ultimately go to the people.
ODM belongs to the people. It is they who will decide its destiny. No matter how long the regressive wing plays games, they'll never succeed.
Broad-based ODM has been thrown into a spin after Ruto's spontaneous "wapumbavu" comment in Nyeri yesterday. I love it, because it exposed @WilliamsRuto ‘s thinking.
I have been saying here that the entire broad-based philosophy is premised on exploiting old Kikuyu-Luo socio-cultural and political fault lines, where the Luo are made to believe certain lies, namely;
1. That Uhuru betrayed Raila in 2022, even though all evidence points to the contrary.
2. That the Kikuyu refused to vote for Raila in 2022, yet Central Kenya was where Jose Carmago worked the most.
3. That they are entering government as to serve a comeuppance to the Kikuyu and to replace them in the power matrix.
Because of this, Ruto and UDA have to oscillate between the two tribes sowing this divisive seed. Poison Luos against Kikuyus and then go to Kikuyuland and ask them how anyone can abandon the beloved "Jews of Kenya" for the wapumbavu dwelling in the far west.
I can see ODM broad-based spinners struggling to explain what Ruto could have meant, but unless you live inside his head, you can't explain on his behalf. He must come out and speak for himself.
But even when he does, the cat will have been out of the bag; Ruto sees the ODM people he deals with as cheap, easy, malleable characters. WAPUMBAVU, in simple Swahili.
If it was Rigathi @rigathi who had called ODM members wapumbavu, the political scene would be sounding like a dog contest for the highest rabies credentials.
Sam Atandi @SamuelAtandi would be swinging his gym biceps from the highest tree in Mur Malanga, demanding Gachagua's neck!
Gladys Wanga @gladyswanga would have resurrected the dormant ancient spirit of Queen Nefertiti, stomping the land screaming about how Gachagua has desecrated the legacy of Raila Odinga.
Junet's @JunetMohamed shrill soprano voice would be at the doors of hell, beseeching the devil to open an armageddon window just large enough for Gachagua's torso to fit, for live cremation.
Abdulswamad "Ambao Kwamba" Nassir, @A_S_Nassir would have found the nearest ODM letterhead and posted that "wale ambao kwamba hawapendi Rais, watupwe kwa mto ambao kwamba umejaa!"
Beatrice Elachi would be speaking a strange mix of Isukha, Idaho and Maragoli, just to punctuate "Gachagua must go!"
They are yet to find their voices. But it is hard to speak when the mouth is full.
Or perhaps they are unable to speak because they realise that Ruto's words were not an accident, but a not-so-subtle warning that if the wapumbavu were not going to behave, he could go back to Murima.
There is a Kawangware saying that "those who have eaten the deposit have swallowed their voices with it". Wapumbavu.
Now that the appointing authority, or someone closely associated with the office, has leaked the impending retirements of both IG Douglas Kanja and DCI Amin Mohamed, speculation now moves to who their replacements will be. My own speculation is how the new appointments may inform military changes.
In other words, if Eliud Lagat is made IG, then neither Army Commander Lt Gen David Keter, nor National Defence University VC, Lt Gen David Tarus, will become CDF next year. It is inconceivable that both IG of Police and CDF will be from the same county (or community) as the President.
It is my view that this opens the way for Gilbert Masengeli to become IG, but the man most qualified, by country miles, is Gideon Nyale Munga, SAIG, Commandant of the Kiganjo Police College. Munga is the quintessential police insider, havind headed nearly every specialised police formation before (ATPU, Flying Squad, SCPU, Anti Narcotics, Chief of Staff and now College Commandant). Munga is probably the finest police officer in uniform in the whole service today.
But back to the military.
Gen Charles Kahariri will turn 62, the retirement age for a four star, in April next year. Given the transition processes, his replacement will most likely be appointed at the Defence Council meeting in November this year.
There are currently four serving Lt Gens (three stars), one of whom will succeed Kahariri. VCDF Omenda from KAF and the Army trio of Keter, Tarus and Juma Shee Mwinyikai, the Commandant of the National Defence College. Quite incredibly, all four were born in 1968 and will turn 58 at various times this year. This is important, because according to Tonje Rules and military tradition, a Lt Gen not promoted to Gen must retire at 58. Only one will become General and CDF, so three will retire, even though Keter is likely to get an extension, having just taken up command at Kenya Army.
So you see, Ruto can opt for Munga or Masengeli, then make Tarus CDF while keeping Keter in place (and it won't be the first time for two members of the same community to hold the two most important military posts, if you remember the combinations of Mulinge and Joseph Kathuka Nzioka, Tonje and Agostine Cheruiyot, as well as Kibochi and Peter Njiru). Or he can decide that a Kalenjin as Commander Kenya Army (Keter), the real seat of power in the military, is enough on that side, so that he can make Eliud Lagat the IG, retire Tarus and appoint either Omenda or Mwinyikai as CDF.
This is the year of reckoning.
"The spokesman of the ODM Party is usually the Secretary General. When Edwin Sifuna speaks, he's speaking on behalf of the Party."
"But then, Mr Sifuna, saa ingine hapana kuwa chungu sana."
- ODM Party Leader, Raila Odinga.
