Jason Segel cried so hard during a table read for The Muppets that people started questioning whether he should be in charge of the movie.

As the writer and star, Segel was already nervous. Then the puppeteers rolled in crates, pulled out the Muppets, and performed the table read with the actual puppets instead of just reading the lines.

The moment Kermit delivered his first line, “Hi-ho,” Segel burst into tears.

At first, everyone thought it was sweet. But the crying didn’t stop. Segel said it turned into deep, heavy sobs that were completely disproportionate to the moment.

The room slowly went from, “Aw, he really loves the Muppets,” to, “Wait… can this guy really be in charge of making this movie?”

Looking back, Segel still laughs about how emotional he got the first time he saw Kermit come to life in front of him.
