SENSE AND SENSIBILITY: Georgia Oakley’s latest big-screen adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel is my favorite one to date.

Even though I know this story incredibly well, the performances, direction, and craft work are so spectacular that I couldn’t help but fall in love with this story all over again.

Daisy Edgar-Jones is fantastic, as always, but my god, Esmé Creed-Miles is just brilliant. She brings so much life, emotion, and personality to this iconic role of Marianne.

There is something just so wonderfully refreshing about how traditional this adaptation feels. It doesn’t try to reinvent Austen or attempt to turn the material into something it isn’t. Instead, Oakley embraces what has made this story beloved for generations while finding enough emotional richness to make it stand out from previous iterations.

I get that our industry might be a bit afraid of a beautifully crafted and classical period piece nowadays, especially given all the modern day takes. However, I do hope this one is embraced and celebrated for what it is.

I do think this movie is wonderful and it definitely deserves to be part of the awards conversation. Yes, I found it to be that good.

i have severe panic attacks pretty often and this scene is so unnerving in how realistic it is. emily and josh are both fantastic here, the sound and the construction of how it’s framed with the camera and production design here. i actually cried from how overwhelming it felt
