How did I get this far into adulthood before realizing jigsaw puzzles make me feel so calm and balanced? Like, A LOT! Got this one last weekend, finished last night. Today I went to the store and got five more. Taylor: 1, Depression & anxiety: 0 (today)
@onechaoticbrain Sometimes when I get stuck, I remember using my hands helps me disconnect. Chores, plant care, coloring, drawing, painting, jigsaw puzzles w music/podcast.
Hope you find your things/activities soon. I & other peeps find revisiting fave childhood activities brings peace 💜
@onechaoticbrain addressed, knew, learned about ADHD until last Dec. I graduated college 10 yrs ago, had a handful of profesh jobs I liked and hated. Then last year, dx with MDD, insomnia, anxiety. I learned these comorbidities can make ADHD symptoms worse, and meds for all make it manageable.
@adhdasiangirl Me, me, me.
It’s hyper focus, feeling unwelcome and like a nuisance, it was easy to get lost in books aka “quiet activity”
Paired with my perfectionism, there was no option for not achieving. (definitely cheated my fair share & relied on writing skills to get A/Bs)
Perpetually trying to remind myself to look for at least one positive thing.
In therapy, when asked, I reluctantly start with a mundane thing, which leads to more positive things, neutralizing the dread
I really don't understand how my brain can be super dedicated to an idea, and get really excited and motivated to do it, but the 4 seconds later it's like, "ya know what, nevermind." 🫠
@theADHDacademic Quietest floor in the library. A cubby desk (the one like a cubicle). Or a big table to spread out. Sometimes with a friend, if I’m at least 50% confident about knowing the material.
Writing: instrumental music only, no pop covers.
@WhatTheADHD Feeling invaluable. Degrading management and supervisors. Being told “no” for my creative strategies. And lack of good sleep. Recipe for “meets expectations” aka not overachieving is a confidence disaster.
Really sucks you’re going thru it
@AutSciPerson Gasp! Me too! Addicted to feeling useful. Like there is something to prove. Our brains always knew we were NT, but it took a long time for us to comprehend.
What does it all meeeeaaannn
@WhatTheADHD FWIW, my ENT said I have excellent hearing, better than most (results of a hearing test), and there are no signs of hearing loss. The ringing and popping occur throughout the day, which suggests it’s not bc of my ears. Likely stress✔️ grinding/clenching jaw✔️
@WhatTheADHD Wearing nice earplugs helps esp. in loud movies, concerts etc.
Light sensitivity is less frequent, but headache/eye ache inducing & nauseating. I attribute it to Vertical Heterophoria, as it occurs when not wearing my glasses. Driving during sunset is the worst!
A depression record: sleeping 1 - 8:30am, skip workout class and fall back asleep until noon. Scroll 📜 home for 45 min, fall asleep until 2, get out of bed at 2:30pm.
@lilyforaheart Heavy sigh.
It’s just so difficult. I had a test 1.5 weeks ago (ok, holiday) but my doc was supposed to call the next day or the day after w/results. I have other shit going on, and don’t have the energy to ask wtf is going on.
And that’s 1/5 medical pros I see regularly.
