I graduated from the University of Glasgow yesterday with a Master of the Arts in History and Sociology with First Class Honours. I want my achievement to be a lesson to admissions offices - Care Experienced people can thrive in university if they are met with understanding.
Think about this. 16-year-old children are dumped in bedsits, shared accommodation, and hotels with no support whatsoever, and this government thinks it's OK. When I speak to these young people, the fear in their eyes is something you never forget. Grown men banging on your door at 2am, drug gangs parked up waiting to pounce and force you into criminal activity. For these kids, there's no luxury breakaway to university or that dream career. It results in a lifetime of misery. And It's a certain area of care totally ignored. Children, just children. I survived my ordeal, and I personally do not want to see any more children suffer because of social neglect. #changeiscoming, and that's why I'm campaigning to make care experience a protected characteristic. Please think about this when your MP comes knocking begging for your vote. Tell them to back this motion. Children in care are still children.
@JodieHBrown Their piece truly captured the importance of connection and belonging within school. I feel so lucky to have listened to their story and thank you for providing them with the safe space to do that.

In essence, what are you doing behind the scenes, when no one is looking, to champion care leavers in everyday life at work or in your community? When the camera stops rolling?
No guaranteed answers here, though @ShaunnaDevine8 has some excellent ways to start.
