“im one of the top 5,000 students in the country. That means if I study, I’ll probably live a normal life. But in rap… I know I can be number one. So what should I be? 5,000th in school… or 1st in rap?”
What is a love song?
We associate it with romance, not violence. Yet love can tilt toward jealousy & possession. RM names that volatility directly in Don’t Ever Say Love Me:
“Love is a violence, you did know that somebody someday is
Gonna break all of the silence, we losin’ the balance”
Love destabilizes. As an art form, it has to decide what that force becomes
Makoto Fujimura argues that art is vulnerable to darkness as well as light. Its task is to depict that darkness without participating in it
Alain Badiou describes love as building a world from the perspective of Two rather than collapsing difference into One. Byung-Chul Han argues that love deteriorates when the other becomes a mirror of the self
BTS’s music often speaks in a similar way. It acknowledges love’s shadow without glorifying control or erasure
So what is a love song? It is not just an emotional expression in musical form. It shows what we do when love unbalances us. And whether we can sustain difference without violence
connecting the dots..
during 'Indigo', he wondered how artists could create while starving right after the war. today, he stood before Lee Jung-seob’s silver foil paintings—art born from the same desperation and longing during the war.
his "tribute to Korean painters" isn't just a concept; it’s a lifelong journey of deeply respecting those who kept their soul alive through art, no matter how poor the nation was. he truly lives by his word. ♥️
Yoongi is not cold to the world either. Can we seriously let go of this narrative? He is kind, gentle, thoughtful and sweet all over. He literally wrote songs for his juniors in the industry so they know he's there for them, he always does everything ARMYs ask of him, when the world was busy throwing him off the cliff, he was working with kids to make their lives better and here we have this age-old wattpad narrative 'Yoongi is cold to–'
He is cold to no one! Stop painting him in wrong light fgs!
they’re fully leaving it to us as their number 1 promotional vehicle and THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT 👏🏻👏🏻 been saying for years, the ultimate fan economy self-perpetuates. all the artist/label has to do is drop crumbs, dates, chances to connect, and we take it from there ✨
I think BTS is doing John Alan Lee's 6 kinds of love, AKA the Color Wheel Theory of Love. A queer Canadian psychologist, he worked to undo bias against LGBTQ people, advocated the right to die & literally wrote the book on cruising. His autobiography was called "Love's Gay Fool."
the “what is your love song” campaign reminds me strongly of the work of american artist barbara kruger, a former magazine editor whose photo-and-text combinations use the visual language and bold statement style of advertisements to question systems of power in our daily lives.
It looks like the cover art and one of the inspirations behind BTS "ARIRANG" comes from a novel by French philosopher Alain Badiou called "Éloge de L'amour", aka "In Praise of Love."
August 2023:
↓ 230809 RM Instagram Story Update, 2 Stories
↓ 230830 Weverse Live -- Namjoon mentioned the book and said he read it
"As we know, love needs re-inventing" - Arthur Rimbaud, "A season in Hell, Hallucinations 1," ("Une Saison en Enfer") the first page of "Éloge de L'amour"
↓ "In Praise of Love" (Éloge de L'amour) by Alain Badiou is a philosophical book that argues that love is not just a passing feeling, but a courageous "truth-seeking" adventure that transforms individuals by forcing them to experience the world from the perspective of "two" rather than one. Badiou defends love as a risky, enduring commitment against modern, consumerist, and "zero-risk" dating culture.
