When the Babaláwo casts the Ọ̀PẸ̀LẸ̀, the way the segments land, forms specific patterns known as odù. Each odù contains verses, stories, teachings, warnings, and guidance that help interpret a person’s situation and offer direction. A faster method of divination than the traditional palm nuts, while drawing from the same body of Ifá knowledge.

Ọ̀PẸ̀LẸ̀ may also be worn as jewelry or incorporated into fashion. In those cases, it often symbolizes wisdom, spiritual heritage, ancestral knowledge, and a connection to Yoruba identity, though it does not function as a divination tool unless it has been consecrated and is used by a trained practitioner.
