New York law makes it nearly impossible for innocent people who plead guilty and don’t have the benefit of DNA evidence to go back to court and prove their innocence.
Urge Speaker Carl Heastie to bring the Challenging Wrongful Convictions Act (A.7422-C) to the Assembly today. @VOCALNewYork@nyc_defenders@LegalAidNYC@BklynDefender@_CFAL

A major step forward for working New Yorkers!
No one facing a serious illness should be forced to survive on $170 a week.
Now it's time for the Assembly to act.
The Maternal Health, Dignity and Consent Act now has bipartisan support!
Thank you, Assemblymember Morinello, for your support on this legislation. Let’s get it over the finish line
A woman who was 9 months pregnant was recently forced to give birth in a courtroom while handcuffed behind her back.
This week, the Senate passed my Anti-Shackling Bill, which would prohibit the inhumane practice of restraining pregnant and postpartum women who are in custody.
74 people have died in custody this year. That's one every two days.
Albany cannot look away.
With days left in session, we call on Gov. Hochul and lawmakers to pass bills that expand pathways home and overhaul prison conditions, including the Earned Time & Second Look Acts.
The "CREEP" Act will force New Yorkers into civil court to answer for alleged
behavior that is ALREADY a criminal charge. And it will do so without the
right to counsel. Tell Speaker Carl Heastie and sponsor @votejgr to STOP
fastracking the CREEP Act A3226A
📢 Yell it from the rooftops: a state that prizes reproductive health + autonomy should not be shackling women who go into labor when in police custody.
The Legislature must pass my bill banning this practice NOW.

Nearly 80k NY children live with severe behavioral health diagnoses and complicating factors like medical challenges, foster care involvement, or IDDs. My bill w/ @SenatorBrouk connects our siloed systems to ensure kids get the unified care they deserve.

90% of young people interrogated by police in New York waive their Miranda rights.
They don't understand what they're giving up. That has to change.

Under the #Right2RemainSilent Act (S.878/A.2620):
- If interrogation is necessary, it would be mandatory that the child first consult with a lawyer before any questioning can take place.
- Consultation with a lawyer would be a non-waivable requirement. Any statement taken in violation of this requirement could not be entered into evidence against the child.
