This is the best story in sports right now.
Last summer, Dennis Schroder didn’t have an NBA contract. In September ’22, he went into EuroBasket and took down Giannis and Greece in the quarterfinals. After leading Germany to a 3rd place finish, Schroder signed a 1-year, $2.6 million deal with the Lakers.
It wasn’t much, but it was an opportunity.
Schroder played his role to perfection and helped LA reach the Western Conference Finals. Then, this past July, he signed a 2-year, $26 million deal with the Raptors - earning a bigger role and payday on a new team.
Then he played for Team Germany in the FIBA World Cup - and casually did this:
🔸 Averaged 19.1 PPG and 6.1 APG
🔸 Upset win over the US in the semifinal
🔸 Scored 28 to beat Serbia in the gold medal game
🔸 Named to All-Tournament Team
🔸 World Cup MVP
And to think - a year ago today, he didn’t even have an NBA contract. Coming off an injury, no one even wanted to take a chance on him.
Today, he’s a World Cup champion, tournament MVP, and about to head into the ’23-24 season as the Raptors’ starting PG.
Believe in yourself, keep grinding, and the good things will come.
Dennis Schroder is living proof of that.
Luka goes to Europe for three months and leans out. The food over there is different. Not everyone reacts well to the ultra processed American diet. You have pro athletes burning 3000 calories a day here still struggling.
It's crazy how many people want to see LeBron James fail.
Even when 8th graders fail a math test, it's seen as a failure for LeBron. Like he's LeTeacher or something.
"0% of 8th graders in LeBron's 'I Promise' School have passed the state's math exam since 2018."
The most important thing when a new headline comes out isn't the information that's mentioned, but the information that is deliberately left out.
Let's be clear: ZERO students passing is a bad thing. But there's more to this story mainstream media doesn't want you to hear:
🔸To qualify for the 'I Promise' School you must come from the bottom 25% of the state's reading exam.
🔸28% of students at the school have a disability.
🔸Most admitted students are not proficient in math at their grade level. They are years behind coming in.
🔸42% of these students progressed a full year in math, but they're not proficient at their grade level yet.
🔸The entire country is seeing reading and math test scores plummet since the pandemic.
🔸Overall, reading and math scores throughout America have been significantly declining since 2012.
Anyone can find this information, but most won't bother considering the only reason they're talking about 8th-grade math in the first place is because it's linked to a celebrity.
LeBron's mission is not just to make 13-year-olds pass an exam. The bigger purpose of his school is to attack a generational education issue in America. An issue where at-risk kids don't get the classrooms, teachers, and opportunities LeBron is providing at his school.
But the internet just doesn't seem to care…🤷🏽♂️
