As I spend another day with my father in long term care, I want to reiterate my absolute support for Universal Healthcare, no questions asked, physical and mental and vision and dental (because not looking at it holistically is idiotic).
I expect to break down crying tonight.
@bykenarmstrong@propublica Now, two years later, the first two episodes of my new @serial podcast “The Kids of Rutherford County”, is in the world. It’s a collab with @ProPublica and @WPLN.

It’s the story of how a system that routinely violated children’s rights came to be.

@bykenarmstrong and myself chronicled some of this story in our 2021 article with @ProPublica. https://t.co/fbtd9PQFIB
But there was so much more to tell. So, with Ken’s help, I kept going.

For over a decade, Rutherford County, Tenn. was arresting and jailing kids for even the most minor offenses.
A boy accused of stealing a football jersey–jailed
A girl accused of pulling someone’s hair–jailed
A girl trying to use a blank check at a school book fair–jailed

M4L book banners are out of control in #wilsoncountytn! We could be solving teacher pay or bus issues, instead folks w/ 0 kids in schools open up book review after book review. Slaughterhouse 5 is up for review soon!

Did you get a survey from your Wilson County Commissioner? Respond to a poll? Give public comment to them about ERPO laws? Neither did we! Why are they telling Gov. Lee & the Gen. Assembly that Wilson Co doesn't support ERPO laws?
@WilsonDemocrats
“We have to represent a new model of what legislators can look like.”
Honored to participate in the Sept 2023 Icons issue for @harpersbazaarus, lifting up Black designers & our continued fight to make sure the voices of our communities are heard

People are concerned about unfettered access to firearms & gun deaths, lack of reproductive rights, lack of access to healthcare, workers' rights & public education.
We need to grab hands & work together to create the change we want in '24!

WILSON COUNTY: 20 year-old “fighter of freedom” school board candidate Aaron Fulcher (R) quotes Hitler at a church in Lenoir City (same quote as the M4L newsletter), proudly proclaims himself a Christian Nationalist in the comments.
LAPD at the scene called it in as an “OD.” It was NOT an OD. She was having a MASSIVE aneurysm.
Chad Loder was there and told the LAPD — repeatedly — that Angie was NOT overdosing. Chad told the cops about Angie’s aneurysm history. She was showing brain injury signs. Not OD.
you probably remember this photograph. it's one of the more iconic of the awful images of the nazi torch march at UVA on august 11, 2017.
on august 12, the man in the center was elated to see himself on the cover of papers across the county.
today, i can tell you he is dead.
