The way to look at any degree/training is thru the lens of the Lindy Effect, namely, the longer a profession has been around, the longer it tends to stay around.

Examples:

Civil Engineering: We've been building big things for thousands of years and we're likely to keep doing so.

Plumbing: Since the Romans and despite Home Depot and YouTube, most people still call plumbers for basic things.

Computer Science: Only ~70 years old (maybe less), so hedge your bets on this one.

Marketing: Roughly 200 years old, but the modern version is < 100. Hedge this one too.

Sustainability: Less than a decade. Big risk. Have a Lindy Positive backup plan.

- If you want more war, increase the Pentagon's budget.
- If you want expensive real estate, mandate affordable housing.
- If you want shitty public transit, spend more on public transit.

... and so on.
