What I learned is important in nutrition is a balanced diet and always know what your putting in your body. Not only is a healthy diet for your physique but also for a healthy mind and body. I will make sure to tell my patients that moderation is better than restriction. @beh353
@ryleybeh353@beh353 I 100% agree with this statement. In order for your body to function properly you need to fuel yourself with the right foods. Like when exercising you need whole foods in protein to recover. @beh353#beh353
I thought this was very interesting. I always knew figs were great for digestive health but I didn't know they strengthen our bones. This is great to know! @beh353#beh353
If you’re looking for bone-strengthening fruits, get figs. Five medium fresh figs have around 90 milligrams of calcium and other nutrients like potassium and magnesium. https://t.co/SUOhKFFLRm
@EPhamnguyen@EmmaDArpinoRD@beh353 Hi Emily! I also thought that part of the discussion was interesting. I think most peoples minds think they can be addicted to something so simple like coffee. But like Emma said it can't be compared to drugs. @beh353#beh353
This week in @EmmaDArpinoRD discussion she talked about Produce. She mentioned how most people gravitate towards fresh produce rather than frozen produce. She also mentioned processing, and how the composition changes but doesn't necessarily mean the fruit is unhealthy.@beh353
As we study children's diets this week I thought this post was very fitting. I think it's a great idea to do days like this is schools. Not every child may like meat and it gives more children the chance to try other diets. @beh353#beh353
@ryleybeh353@beh353 I also read about this article and loved the fact it was straight to the point and simple for adults to get ideas from. I also loved the ideas about inviting the friends over and having the kids help plan meals with the parents. @beh353#beh353
As a future health car professional I would share this article with my patients parents. It is simple and is straight to the point. It has great ideas like having family meals together. Also how having the kids help plan healthy meals. @beh353#beh353 https://t.co/qOCffd8RGz
When exercising it is important you do it for the right reasons. Don't workout because you ate something too sugary or not compliant with your diet. Workout to relax or even feel better about yourself. It is important to stay healthy but don't push too hard. @beh353#beh353
@ryleybeh353@beh353 Mental health of patients is so important. Whether they are struggling to lose weight or have an eating disorder making it harder for them to gain weight. In order to treat them we need to understand where their mindset stands.@beh353#beh353
It is important to understand the struggles people go through. We never know what someone is dealing with. Whether they are struggling to gain or lose weight it is critical to not be opinionated and care for them. Your words count and they may hurt more than help. @beh353#beh353
On our topic of obesity this week I think shows how informing children about nutrition is a great idea. In this 19 schools they are not only informing students on diets but also hunger issues. I think learning at a young age is important in the long run. @beh353#beh353
What a great time today at Watkins Elementary learning about the @FRESHFARMDC FoodPrints program, which teaches students at 19 public schools about nutrition and urban farming at an early age. Thanks to everyone at our roundtable on nutrition and hunger issues w/ @USDANutrition.
@EPhamnguyen@beh353 Hi Emily! I also want to go into pediatrics and I think it's important to educate on healthy diets and lifestyles as kids grow up. Eating healthy and being active are very important when staying a healthy weight.
I would professionally let my patients know the risk of obesity and how fast food isn't the best in the long run for their overall health. @beh353#beh353
This week I learned that obesity is highest among middle aged adults. 20 to 39 years of age is 30.3%. I also learned that obesity gradually grew in the US and by 2015 most of the states are in the red zone for obesity. @beh353#beh353
I wanted to share this post because i've heard many bad things about bananas, one reason being how much sugar is in them. I believe bananas are great for potassium as this source states and helps with blood pressure. In the end bananas are still good to eat. @beh353#beh353
One large banana has about 490 milligrams of potassium. This nutrient can remove sodium from your body and relax blood vessel walls, which helps manage blood pressure. https://t.co/KeK2CVgTNa
A relatable barrier for me is "Unhealthy diet of friends and family" (Munt et al., 2017) This is always a problem for me because when I go home on weekends sometimes my mom asks me to bake things and then I end up eating them. @beh353#beh353
@EPhamnguyen@beh353 I agree with this completely. I feel whenever i'm in a group and the majority wants to eat something that is unhealthy, it tempts me to give in and I usually do. I think it's okay to give in sometimes but discipline against these foods is also necessary.
