BREAKING: We're suing DHS for unconstitutionally wiping out decades of environmental law to blast border barriers and roads through Big Bend National Park—one of the most remote, wild, and least-crossed stretches of the entire southern border.
This week, DHS waived every one of our nation's most important environmental laws to bulldoze new border barriers and roads through Big Bend National Park. This marks the first time in U.S. history these laws have been waived in a national park.
With these laws gutted and a $1.7 billion construction contract already issued, very little stands in the way of DHS contractors plowing into the park, permanently destroying countless archeological sites, blocking off river access and turning this peaceful national park into an industrial construction zone.
We will continue to fight this project every step of the way... more on that soon.
Audio from NPR's fantastic Studio 1A program, which aired across the country last week.
BREAKING: We're suing the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service over their plan to give away 715 acres of a public wildlife refuge to billionaire corporation Space X.
Americans shouldn't be sacrificing their public lands to subsidize a company owned by the richest man in the world.
Lieu: The president is not well. He has tremendous difficulty staying awake on the job. He has repeatedly fallen asleep at Cabinet meetings, at White House events, at a Memorial Day ceremony, and most recently at a very loud NBA game last night.
The White House needs to explain why Donald Trump keeps going to the hospital and taking cognitive tests.
The New World Screwworm, a grave parasitic threat, has just been detected in US cattle for the first time since it was eradicated in 1966.
The parasite's revival comes after Trump and DOGE slashed funding for Screwworm monitoring programs.
The President is not well. He can’t stay awake at important White House events and cabinet meetings.
@WhiteHouse needs to come clean about why trump takes so many trips to the hospital and why doctors keep giving trump cognitive tests.
The screwworm program wasn't charity, it was a $10 million fence that kept a billion-dollar problem from eating our own livestock alive. That's the thing with most USAID funding: it looks like "aid," but it's really cheap self-defense. Solve a problem there, and it never lands on our doorstep. But sure, let a bunch of guys who can't define DEI without Googling take a chainsaw to it. They didn't stop to ask, "Will this cut hurt us too?" Unless that's the point, burn it all down and call it efficiency.
As usual our inept agriculture secretary, blaming the Biden administration as usual, instead of offering a solution to the problem they created.
Texan here
A screwworm infestation is a nightmare for cattle, causing horrific wounds and economic devastation. For Texas, the situation has escalated dramatically in the last 24 hours with the first confirmed case of New World Screwworm (NWS) in over 60 years! This could have been avoided!
Infested animal can kill a cow in less than two weeks.
Treatment is extremely difficult and time-consuming, requiring the painful removal of every visible larva and deep disinfection of the wound. Ranchers no longer have much experience with this labor-intensive process, and there is currently no approved pharmaceutical treatment to make it easier.
This has triggered a massive economic threat. The USDA estimates that a widespread outbreak would drain an astonishing $1.8 billion from the Texas economy alone in livestock deaths, labor, and medication expenses.
How will this affect you? Tightening supplies will drive already high beef prices higher.
Rep. Fletcher: The New World screwworm has been found in Texas. This flesh-eating parasite previously eradicated from the U.S. poses a huge threat to our cattle. Last March, the Trump administration fired more than 15,000 USDA employees and eliminated a program to contain the screwworm in Central America. The threat of New World screwworm is just one consequence of the Trump administration's reckless campaign to eliminate funding for government programs that Americans rely on.
Here’s the deal for those confused: “America 250” is the bipartisan celebration committee. “Freedom 250” is a Trump organization celebrating him masquerading as a celebration of America. The concert was Freedom 250. Hence the cancellations
The reflecting pool debacle, illegally renaming the Kennedy Center after himself, dumping toxins on DC's public golf courses, destroying the East Wing…
All are corruption scandals & metaphors for this admin's incompetence @PsakiBriefing 👇 - TN
These days I’m at a loss for words. The new corruption scandal is just bananas. Trump has been using inside information to trade stocks and make millions. And the scale of the trading is just mind blowing.
Here’s what we know.
James Talarico: “My two rules are be yourself and tell the truth. My faith is central to who I am. That said, I’m very cognizant how organized religion has hurt a lot of people. There are a lot of agnostics and atheists who are a lot more Christlike than Christian politicians”
Generation after generation, men and women put on the uniform knowing the risk — and went anyway knowing they might not come home. Knowing their families would carry that for the rest of their lives.
To the families still carrying that weight — I see you. The pain doesn’t go away, but neither does the pride.
Freedom has never been guaranteed. It has to be earned, defended, and sometimes paid for in the hardest way imaginable. Today on Memorial Day, we stop, we slow down, and we remember those who did.
We honor them.
We thank them.
And we work hard to live up to what they died for. Keep the democracy they believed in worth believing in. That is the ultimate tribute for their sacrifice.
Donald Trump ran for office for three reasons:
1) stay out of jail
2) exact revenge on his enemies
3) line his pockets
Everything else he says is bullshit.
On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women in uniform who gave their lives for this country that we love. It is a debt we can never fully repay, but we must never stop trying. I’ll always be grateful to our fallen heroes and their families, whose sacrifice reminds us of what it means to live for something greater than ourselves.
Dear @RepRalphNorman: Please watch this video. You and I were Members of Congress when January 6 happened. Remember?
Happy to bring police officers who were assaulted on January 6 to your office so they can explain to you how they got their injuries.
COMMENTARY: Let’s say it plainly: There has never been a president as corrupt as Donald Trump.
There is no close second in our history.
