Miami was the #2 team in the country Week 8 while Notre Dame was #13. Since then, Miami has gone 3–2 with two losses to unranked teams — and both losses happened right when the committee was making their CFP decisions. Notre Dame has gone undefeated. That’s the whole argument.
Lose to SMU → drop to #9.
Lose to Louisville → drop to #18.
No conference title. 16th SOR. 43rd SOS.
Head-to-head of course matters — but so does how you’re playing right now, especially when it counts. Miami didn’t handle their business. Two losses to unranked teams at the most important time of the season.
Miami did this to themselves. It’s too obvious, hahah!!!

@timomalleyND@irishillustratd Been traveling so I haven’t seen as much of the last two games but thought I saw a “tweet” that said ND has had 6 different DL starting lineups. If true, what’s your perspective as to why and what combo do you think has been most effective? ☘️
Week 7
Don’t look ahead to USC
Don’t look ahead to USC
Don’t look ahead to USC
Can whoever has the remote from the movie Click fast forward to Oct 18th?
More so than getting CJ Carr passed the “bad game” last week and keeping this defense on track, Marcus Freeman needs to do what a lot of Irish fans may have trouble with, and that is not letting his team and staff look ahead to USC.
More than a few writers had this weekend scheduled as one to look out for on ND’s schedule. Most predictions had a 1-loss Irish team potentially struggling with a scrappy NC State on its way to the last true test of the season and another lull in the action until maybe Pitt or Angeli’s return on senior day.
Instead, a 2-loss Irish team, with zero margin for error, invites the Wolfpack into the Cathedral for another test. NC State wishes it was slated to travel to South Bend a few weeks ago when this ND defense was more vulnerable. Unfortunately for NC State, the Irish defense has been on an upward trajectory.
Ash and Mickens have positives on tape to review and build on. Different pressure looks are going to give this staff flexibility in their play calls. Players like Tae Johnson and KVA are making their case through their play to stay on the field during impactful moments. This defense is starting to look more and more familiar.
The best case scenario for Notre Dame this week is there are zero conversations about this game after Wednesday of next week. Reserve Monday and Tuesday for recap and film review, and then everyone forgets the 2025 NC State game until it gets brought up whenever the next time these two teams meet.
Notre Dame football fans need to be bored this weekend and jonesing for USC by halftime. If the Sunday morning twitter feed is Penn State fans crying about how Notre Dame doesn’t play anyone, it’s a good sign.
However, this starts with the leadership of this team. Focus on NC State
Don’t look ahead to USC.
Make this game forgettable.
Let’s go ☘️
