The evidence is indisputable that a great hinderance for many in giving the gospel a hearing is the duplicity and rank hypocrisy they see in the church when it comes to dealing with our own sins. Found Julie Roy’s podcast ‘The Roy’s Report’ recently. It is well worth a listen.
The church's first calling is to preach the gospel and make disciples. Impacting the society's practices should be the fruit of a gospel-filled life. That's why William Wilberforce, David Livingstone and Alexander McLeod called slavery evil. It was the social issue of their day.
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” #isaiah41:13. How did this verse slip by me? Trying to remember who he is, what he is doing and what he has promised to do on my behalf this day.
Augustine said that the key to transformed character is the right ordering of our loves. I love chicken parmagion but if I love it more than my wife, well that’s a problem in oh so many ways #tccnj.church
Psalm 77. Dread: “Has his unfailing love vanished. Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?” Comfort: “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.” Sometimes all I can do is remember. And that’s OK.
The Covid-19 scare &hype is putting the fear into people. However, underlying this is the creeping knowledge that at root, humans have no ability to foresee, prevent, or mitigate disruptive events. We really have little control. God does, &events like this make us see it. Rom1:18
The same sun which melts wax hardens clay. And the same gospel which melts some persons to repentance hardens others in their sins.”
Charles Spurgeon
“So completely was Jesus bent upon saving sinners by the sacrifice of Himself, He created the tree upon which He was to die, and nurtured from infancy the men who were to nail Him to the accursed wood.”
Octavius Winslow
“Modern Christians hope to save the world by being like it, but it will never work. The church’s power over the world springs out of her unlikeness to it, never from her integration into it.”
A.W. Tozer
