It will take all of us to end mandatory minimums in Virginia this legislative session.
🛑 STOP SCROLLING for a minute and let your VA lawmakers know how important it is that they pass this legislation in 2021. 👇
Virginia has over 200 mandatory minimum sentences. It's time to repeal these outdated and unjust laws and make way for second chances! https://t.co/gPuQP5deLd!
#endmandatoryminimums
#endmandatoryminimums - There are SO many educated and rehabilitated men and women behind bars who are STILL there because of excessive sentencing. Let’s take the right step forward in Virginia’s law and end mass incarceration.
#icare4 for my friend whose serving a mandatory minimum sentence in Virginia they for sure deserve a #SecondChance. Member of the #VAGeneralAssembly, I urge you to think of the families and #endmandatoryminimums and make sure those already behind bars benefit from the changes.
Remember THE PEOPLE IN POWER ARE NEVER MORE POWERFUL THAN THE PEOPLE! BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE! BE THE COICE FOR THE VOICELESS! #endmandatoryminimums
Mandatory minimums hurt communities of color the hardest. The #VAGeneralAssembly must address racial disparities in our justice system and #endmandatoryminimums this year.
#endmandatoryminimums! Mandatory sentences don't allow judges to tailor sentences to the circumstances of each case or defendant. So, people end up with harsher sentences & longer prison time dictated by policies rather than by judges.
Mandatory minimums DO strip judges of their power to tailor sentences.
Mandatory minimums DO cost A LOT.
Mandatory minimums DO NOT increase public safety.
I believe VA should #endmandatoryminimums! #VAGeneralAssembly
Studies show that mandatory sentences do not deter or reduce crime. These laws cost you millions of dollars but don't make you safer. The #VAGeneralAssembly needs to #endmandatoryminimums this year!

@DrEJ_SGY I have been noting the change in language in our papers and TV News for a few years now. It is very interesting to see. The pen really is mightier than the sword!
