🔹 San Antonio Christian @SACSFootball stunned Holy Cross @HolyCrossofSAFB with a dramatic 36–33 comeback win, erasing a 20–0 deficit to notch one of the biggest turnarounds of Week 2. Junior QB Sloan Guillory @SloanGuilloryQb sparked the rally with 137 passing yards and a touchdown, while senior WR Blaise Moberg and RB Aaron Albrecht chipped in key scores to fuel the Lions’ surge. For Holy Cross, sophomore QB Rocky Orozco @rocky_qb9 and RB Taylor Flores again showed flashes, but the Knights couldn’t protect their early cushion and fell to 0–2 after dominating these same matchups last season. Despite the early losses, Holy Cross feels like a team that is going to be tough to beat in district play.

🔹 Wright exploded in Week 2, completing 17 of 21 passes for 341 yards and 6 touchdowns, while adding 51 yards on the ground in a 43–0 rout of Legacy Preparatory Christian Academy -Magnolia @LPCA_Athletics. After being shut out in their opener, the Eagles bounced back in a big way behind their junior quarterback, who commanded the offense with precision and confidence. Wright’s performance not only evened Lake Country’s record at 1–1 but also cemented him as one of the most dangerous passers in Division III heading into district play.

👀 Things to Watch
🔹 After a dominant 2024 season, Holy Cross of San Antonio @HolyCrossofSAFB has started 0-2. Is this just early-season rust and a difficult non-district schedule or is it something more. They will get another shot this week against Central Catholic-San Antonio @ButtonAthletics.
🔹 After a weather-shortened game and forfeit loss against Southwest Christian School-Fort Worth @SCSEaglesFB, this version of the Dallas Christian School-Mesquite @DCSChargers team is still hard to judge if they are one of the teams to beat in Division III. Their game this week against the Atlas Home School Rattlers will get them back on track.

🔍 2025 District Outlook 🔍

Graduating seniors and intra-TAPPS transfers have shaken District 1 to its core, setting the stage for a new champion in 2025. Lake Country Christian returns 16 starters from a state quarterfinal squad and looks ready to seize the crown after finishing third last year. With QB Timmy Wright @tcwright13 and WR/DB Ryan Whites @ryan_w1515 leading an explosive attack, the Eagles have the firepower to rise. Defending champ Lubbock Christian isn’t far behind, reloading with Colleyville transfer Jason Fleming @j_fleming7 at quarterback and elite WR Keaton Lee @KeatonLee_10. Covenant Christian, hit hard by transfer losses including D1 FBS offered RB Correll Buckhalter Jr. and LB Ndi Etta enter a full rebuild but remains gritty under new head coach Joey Phillips.

Further down the standings, Pantego Christian and Trinity Christian–Willow Park are young but, on the rise, leaning on physical run games and developing sophomore talent. Pantego’s unique beast-set rushing scheme, powered by Micah Harber @MicahHarber and Anthony Jackson @ant_hollyw00d gives them a bruising identity that will test district defenses. With coaching changes, roster turnover, and playoff-caliber talent up top, TAPPS Division III – District 1 is one of the most intriguing and wide-open races in the state this fall.

With a phenomenal 16 starters returning from a state quarterfinalist team, Lake Country Christian is primed for a special season. The Eagles bring back the core of a high-powered offense, including a dual-threat quarterback who accounted for over 2,600 yards and a superstar receiver who scored 17 touchdowns. Bolstered by nine returning starters on an aggressive defense, this veteran-laden squad has moved beyond being a tough playoff out and is now a legitimate contender for the district championship and a deep postseason run. Expect this experienced group to be one of the most explosive teams in the division.

🔹 Depth behind the core: Beyond the senior and junior leaders, much of the roster consists of underclassmen or those with limited varsity minutes. If injuries strike or opponents bring physical depth late, Lake Country may struggle to maintain pace in rotation-heavy matchups.
🔹 Offensive balance depends on youth development: With Wright returning at QB, the offense still requires contributions from underclass receivers and running backs beyond Whites and Kercheval to sustain drives. Development of sophomores like RB Clint Cannon and others will be key.
🔹 Defensive front consistency required: While Smiley returns as a veteran presence on the defensive line, the rest of the front is relatively inexperienced. Maintaining pressure and gap integrity in the run game will be essential to keeping games manageable.
