@fried_egg_golf This has long been an issue, but not illegal. Stepping on the grass or rough before you drop is not improving anything as the ball is not in play. Pros do this all the time. Walk in the area before they drop.

@czabe I think the worst of it was when he first got to the ball. High grass all around him. He immediately goes behind the ball and steps on the grass. Then from the side you can see all the matted grass behind the ball.
