I don’t really watch McAfee. It’s not really my jam, but the corporate misread on WHY that show is so successful is just laughable.

It’s successful because he’s authentic in an age where almost nothing is. He’s authentically himself, whether you like that or not.

Inauthentic hot takery has run its course over the last 20 years. The audiences are tired of ragebait and fake “debate.”

Ragebait tells the audience 1. you think they’re too stupid to figure out the premise is false and/or 2. They lack the control to just ignore it.

In an era where you drown in “content” it’s difficult to separate yourself. Ragebait was an easy way to get noticed. In terms of media analytics, 20 years ago it was a market inefficiency. Not many were exploiting it.

Now everyone is doing it. Clickbait, ragebait. It’s ubiquitous.

Pat McAfee is just a dude bro doing a dude bro show. There isn’t any bait, there isn’t any rage bait… just the end of a bunch of dudes doing their dude bro thing.

The market inefficiency now is just honest content. People that are authentically themselves.
