PSA: If you are getting on a bus that will travel for a longer time, please don't put on that much perfume that people 4 rows behind you can sense as if you were sitting next to them.
Also don't wear perfume that smells like it should be flushed back down the toilet. Thanks.
Others also annoyed by this platitude?
"ChatGPT/LLMs/etc are here to stay!"
and then:
"so, we must embrace them!"
As if things that are here to stay are be definition "good".
I'm afraid crime, illness, climate change are all here to stay (sadly). Embrace them?
If you suffer from anxiety try imagining it as a cute lion. It doesn't help with the anxiety but it at least might distract you from it 🦁 #Anxiety#sciencetwitter
Will this also mean that authors who wrote articles using in part ChatGPT generated text will have to retract their publications? Will using ChatGPT in academic writing now finally also be professionally recognised for the blatant plagiarism that it is. https://t.co/CpEYAim4aM
I think my favorite parts of writing papers with my colleague is indeed doing the figures, we spend quite a lot of enjoyable time on them. Although after we decided on the "bone_r" color palette, for obvious reasons, making plots has been a bit more straightforward lately...
Tbh paying this much attention to small details, like matching colors in different figures is so relatable and I love it so much!!
Also, tikz is love ✨
@o_guest@neuro_data @fedeadolfi Indeed, full credit to @fedeadolfi for making Fig. 2 and 3, and to @o_guest for making Fig. 1 in tikz💅 and making Box 1 and 2 in the lighter version of the lovely colour of Dr. Ingenia's shirt. Yes, we care about important details😎

What's the difference between memorization and reasoning, you ask? In short, it's the ability to synthesize new functions on the fly from very few examples -- what humans and many animals do.
I also just shared it with colleagues that are unfortunately captivated by the thought of AGI knocking on their doors soon and are trying to convince me that "AI is here, there's no point in trying to avoid it, we have to adapt and figure out how to incorporate it".
⚡️Very excited to share our new preprint "Reclaiming AI as a theoretical tool for cognitive science", by @o_guest @fedeadolfi #ronalddehaan#antoninakolokolova & #patriciarich and myself https://t.co/5F0e50aMA2 Highlights/summary in thread 🧵👇 1/n
On another note, apparently I was preparing myself for writing grant proposals since a very young age. Unfortunately funding institutions would probably not accept "personal reasons" as valid.
My parents found "letters" I wrote, officially requesting completely random things (like having food in the living room), had them signed and everything. I vaguely remember loving bureacuratical stuff. 25 years later, I live in the country of immense bureaucracy... Yay??.....
One of the letters requested ca. 12 euros for "personal reasons". Nobody knows why. I do remember the joy of typing some form up in word, printing it and making people (my parents) sign it.
there is freshly made hell for people like them where they have to draw sticky figures over and over again, so they will realize how untalented they are
What if it turns out the aliens are real and pose an extinction risk to humanity and the only way to stop them is with being sensible but we just can't cease paralleling cognition with matrix multiplication. Wouldn't that be embarrassing.
