@nocontextpitt How do we get HBO’s attention on this? Thankfully I was able to watch this episode before my friend who has major SA trauma. I can’t believe there wasn’t a trigger warning at the beginning of the episode.
It's fun in 2025 to teach a room full freshman that the American Revolution was ignited by the colonists' hatred of tariffs and excessive police force and watch the gear wheels start turning for 15% of them. -OS
Allow me to address the elephant in the room:
The Trump administration is not setting the course for a four-year term.
The Trump administration is setting the course for an everlasting dictatorship.
Are we all clear on this?
To be clear, you're calling for a New Jersey-born bishop to be deported because you don't like that she exercised her First Amendment right by delivering a sermon in accordance with her faith imploring Trump to show empathy to people?
These hearings are useless as long as they refuse the witnesses the ability to speak and instead constantly interrupt them. The points are clear:
1. If you’re worried about an uneven playing field where illegal immigrants work informally for less than minimum wage, you can right that by giving them citizenship. Just like any other worker, they’d have to be paid at least the minimum wage. There would be no incentive for them to favor the undocumented under those circumstances. That is significantly more likely than deporting all 13M of them isn’t going to happen.
2. I’m not sure how many times this needs to be reinforced. The agricultural and construction industries hardly beckon Americans regardless of wage.
3. Suppose Hawley is correct in that illegal immigrants lower companies’ labor costs. That is an admission that any deportation of them would be inflationary at a time when you were literally elected on a mandate of bringing down inflation. You act like a champion of Americans, but then conspicuously discount consumers who’ve been battered lately and don’t need this additional headwind.
4. This argument would have more merit, if unemployment was at 6%. Instead, it’s in the low 4%. Americans still have plenty bargaining power in this environment where companies remain hungry for workers.
TEN MORE WAYS TO MAKE SMALL TALK WITH YOUR TRUMP-SUPPORTING RELATIVES AT THANKSGIVING
10. Express relief that they were able to safely arrive at Thanksgiving dinner without being attacked by lawless migrants terrorizing the suburbs
Obamacare was the term Republicans coined because they knew their base was racist enough to vote against it even if it mean voting against their best interest. Ted talk over.
The difference between Trump and Harris voters is that Harris voters understood:
-tariffs are a tax we pay
-the ACA is Obamacare
-mass deportations are a bad idea
-cabinet nominations matter
-Project 2025 is terrible
before the election. Trump voters are learning it after.
Fun trivia.
The people who wrote our Constitution weren't sure whether they were going to include a procedure for impeaching the President. Benjamin Franklin made the final argument to convince them.

Funny to see so many American accounts, typically from the types who would usually brag about their military, cower in the corner and scaremonger again about World War 3 at the suggestion that we don't just let Putin and Russia do whatever they like.
