Back when I was a teen, there was a contest on the local radio station to have listeners fill in the blank on the phrase, “As Canadian as ______________”, a take off on the well-known expression, “As American as apple pie.”

In the religion of Christian Meism, I am the preacher proclaiming my own worth, the worship leader singing my own praises, and the counsellor discipling myself along the me-centred path to what I think is life, but is destruction. If Christ is not the centre, I am.

We still owe that generation for the almost eight decades of peace and prosperity that subsequent generations have enjoyed.
