I’m so grateful to be alive to witness a show made with five dollars and a horny dream sweep every award possible tonight. The fact that the film industry so often portrays queer love stories as tragic, comedic, or relegates queer characters to secondary roles in a predominantly straight cast is frustrating. Queer people rarely get a love story that’s truly their own, let alone one given a major platform. It’s sad.

It was amazing to see so many people in the queer community come together to watch this show. In my 24 years, I’ve never seen a show being screened in gay bars, with watch parties full of people cheering on a couple that only a book fandom had been raving about for years.

It warmed my heart to watch the show’s audience grow so much since November, especially after spending months convincing people left and right to read the book and give the TV adaptation a chance based solely on the trailer.

Thank you, Canada, for giving this show a chance. Heated Rivalry, you changed my life in 2019, and you changed it again in 2025
