I’ve seen a lot of commentary from people talking about a spike in poor behaviour at school. I think this is slightly misleading. School behaviour has been *far* worse than most of the public imagined for a long, long time, decades at least. It’s just that people are now facing up to that reality, or realising it. For years the political and educational establishment denied there was a problem, and only by persistent campaigning by people inside schools has this stone been lifted up. Now-thank god- there is a greater understanding of the importance of good behaviour, and the extent of the problem we face.

The American College of Pediatricians just put out a 🔥🔥🔥 statement calling out all the major medical associations by name for pushing the gender transition craze on kids.

They ask for these groups to "IMMEDIATELY stop the promotion of social affirmation, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for children and adolescents who experience distress over their biological sex."

"Therefore, given the recent research and the revelations of the harmful approach advocated by WPATH and its followers in the United States, we, the undersigned, call upon the medical professional organizations of the United States, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the  Endocrine Society, the Pediatric Endocrine Society, American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to follow the science and their European professional colleagues and immediately stop the promotion of social affirmation, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for children and adolescents who experience distress over their biological sex.  Instead, these organizations should recommend comprehensive evaluations and therapies aimed at identifying and addressing underlying psychological co-morbidities and neurodiversity that often predispose to and accompany gender dysphoria. We also encourage the physicians who are members of these professional organizations to contact their leadership and urge them to adhere to the evidence-based research now available.”

So today, it appears England is on course for the highest number of school suspensions in a single year. Statements on this today have mentioned ‘mental health issues, unmet needs, curriculum, under funding’……. But nothing about a lack of care, lack of accountability, lack of rules, boundaries, basic respect, decline in consequences, constant and rising sense of entitlement.

Until we stop talking about everything else apart from these things - we won’t reverse anything.

Reminder: behaviour is not always communication, and misbehaviour is not always because of an unmet need. These myths are at the heart of bad practise that leaves all children unsafe, especially the vulnerable.

Critical thinking should be about learning the facts to come to an informed opinion, not a predefined selected outcome.

Ok I’m pretty heated about this, so I’m going to take a deep breath and try to be a succinct and clear about it as I can:

There’s a private Christian school in western Washington who rents classroom space from a local church. The church has officially decided to end their contract with this school after 23 years over a disagreement about policy.

The issue is that this school is part of a broader athletic league that includes public schools who increasingly allow boys to participate on girls athletic teams in the name of “gender identity.”

The church, out of protection for the female athletes, advised the school to instate a policy to forfeit all games and competitions where girls would be forced to compete against boys.

The school, though they agree with the church on the sexual ethics of trans ideology, has refused to instate such a policy, instead claiming that such action would be “unloving,” and that it’s not right to hold non Christians to Christian standards. The school told families that they would honor their individual decisions to participate or not as their consciences allowed, but as a school, they would not be taking a stand in any capacity.

In making this decision, the school leadership consulted 20 different churches for guidance. 18 out of the 20 agreed with the school that such action would be unloving to the lost.And that’s the part that makes me want to throw things. Here’s why:

1. It’s not “loving” to indulge boys’ delusions at the expense of girls.

2. Boys struggling with identity issues are not the only ones who need love in this context. Where is the love for the girls stuck in this lose-lose situation? What message are you communicating to them about the value of their dignity and rights? If the grown-ups won’t defend them, who the heck will?

3. Individual athletes choosing to sit out won’t make much of a difference at all. People will hardly even know they’re missing unless they’re the team superstars, and that’s a LOT of pressure to put on individual athletes. Show them you have their backs, that they’re not alone, that the whole community supports them, that their rights and protections are not up for sale at the price of a few virtue signal points.

4. You aren’t holding unbelievers to a Christian standard by adhering to a Christian standard yourself. Christians are called to speak truth and defend justice and be bold.

18 out of 20 churches in Washington just fed their girls to the wolves.

For the 2nd year in a row, Michaela Community School was first in the entire country of England, posting the  highest progress score on their national GCSE exams across these subjects:

English, mathematics, the sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, computer science), history, geography, and an ancient or modern foreign language.

On average, Michaela students do 2.4 grades better in each subject than their peers elsewhere did.

Outstanding!

It is time for education leaders to step back and learn from how @Miss_Snuffy and her entire Michaela team have built a joy-filled culture, and their focus on knowledge-building, direct instruction, and cultivating a sense of personal responsibility and agency with their students.
