@ryanr_lester What if we put money into recouping that learning loss when it's safe? I bet it will cost less money, but I'm not holding my breath for that decision because it will most impact people who are disposable in our society.
I told a student that if she chooses something to do from a list we generated of things that support mental wellness, I would do it with her this week. Now I'm looking for TikTok dances to learn.

Ready for a paradigm shift? Many students w/ behavioral disorders also have an expressive or receptive language disorder.
Students who act out may not be trying to get in trouble.
But, they may be trying to communicate a need.

I mean, they do it in Finland and better. Part of the issue is cultural, harder isn't always smarter. Part of it is systemic, having time, resources, respect, and balance.
I can’t even imagine what would happen if teachers and school staffs only worked their contractual hours, only fulfilled their contractual duties and only used the resources their schools provided.
@TeachMrReed Sat in a PD yesterday where we didn't even acknowledge stated concerns about teaching at the height of a pandemic. We have reached the point where our humanity is irrelevant.
Today, my 5th graders had 100% attendance, great engagement, rich conversations about our holiday break, a lesson about jazz music + context clues, successful small groups, and an overall good time.
Remote learning CAN work if y’all would just LISTEN TO THE TEACHERS. Please.
