Same great Caitlin, new Driscoll taste. Alt account of @TeacherOnTopic. This one is for my hobbies, fandoms, and silly stuff. Experimenting w/ gendered titles.
Someone just asked me if it’s true that ADD meds are more addictive than heroin. I’ve forgotten to take my ADD meds for the last three days in a row. If you can forget you’re addicted to heroin then yeah, it’s probably the same thing.
Functioning labels are so focused on productivity that they overlook the most important question: What do you need support with?
Needs are individual. People with the same disability don't always benefit from the same accommodations or support measures. Thread 🧵1/
I’m begging journalists to write pieces about the so-called “labor shortage” that actually involve asking workers who’ve left service industries about why they won’t return to low-paying jobs with no benefits and poor working conditions. Stop only interviewing business owners.
@shadow_uzumaki The pandemic masks also don't help. I over rely on hairstyles lately. Someone changes to a ponytail just for the day, and it's game over!
@peepskneadpeeps@AngryBlackLady@txvoodoo There's a mall local to me that a news outlet reported was a hotspot for trafficking. White women read only the headline & vowed not to take their kids there. Really it was about undocumented immigrants working in the restaurant kitchens, nail salons, etc.
@buberella @mirriam71 @AngryBlackLady@txvoodoo Right. That I agree with. I don't know the answer on the macro level. Even as I have benefited indirectly from addiction support, I also acknowledge the systems we have in place do not work for everyone's benefit.
But I can care about *you* in *your* situation. What do you need?
@mirriam71 @buberella@AngryBlackLady@txvoodoo Eyyyyup. Part of what opened my eyes to white supremacy was the fact that my addicted relative escaped social consequences as many times as she did. I could not imagine a Black woman in the same situation getting a second chance, much less a fourth.
@buberella @mirriam71 @AngryBlackLady@txvoodoo In the meantime, someone else's addiction can warp the lives of people around them. So if you are in that orbit, you have to set boundaries and stick to them, or else you might get set up to play a role you rather would not, such as enabler or excuse maker.
@buberella @mirriam71 @AngryBlackLady@txvoodoo I don't have any good answers for that. But I see a lot of analogies with substance addiction. Addiction is truly a disease, but it's also one a person cannot recover from unless and until they are willing to do the work of recovery.
