@pschofie79 Also… they think you may want maternity leave at some point in the future. This can be an issue whether or not you’re pregnant. (Might be more significant in the US).
@ashleyruba Hi! I have a PhD and work as a High School science teacher. I love it! Years ago, I was on a panel for a forum about jobs to pursue after a PhD. I was shocked that not a single student I talked to thought they might not become a professor. I do wonder what they’re doing now.
@DrWendyRocks@DrAlkaTrip It’s so crazy how often childbearing lines up with dissertating. Josie was 5 months old when I defended. I nursed her, did a two hour oral defense while my husband walked her around the oval in a stroller (she was fussy - also it was December), then after, I nursed her again.
Anyone else doing cells right now? Students can fill this in easily: “Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell.”
Now, ask them what a powerhouse is. What do they say? Mine said, “A really strong person.”
Went to a countertop showroom today. The salesperson said, “This one is a dolomite. It’s kinda like marble, but you probably haven’t heard of dolomite before.”
First day of break (I submitted grades yesterday) and I cleaned up my whole email inbox on my phone. I hope the students who made fun of my 10,000+ messages notification recognize this minor achievement.
@DrWendyRocks Husband and I are both PhDs. 99% of the time, if someone yells “Dr. O’Malley” in our direction, it’s for me. He’s more often called “Mr. Dr. O’Malley”, which has little to do with his degree and more to do with being Dr. O’Malley’s husband.
