“It’s as if the teacher is the mediator between the student and the subject of study. You’re saying, ‘Okay, how can I help you understand this? In what ways can I connect you to the material on a deeper level so that you can make sense of it?’”
Student gave me an amazing idea for Feel Great Friday. Today they had to nominate "myself" and why they were proud of themselves. At the end of class I read them all out loud (anonymously) I'm trying to teach students to be proud of their achievements. #MentalHealthinTheClassroom
please take care of yourself this weekend.
go outside. paint. play video games. sleep. read a book. laugh. take a long shower. eat something good. hug a family member if you can. run. throw a football. scream. write. watch your favorite movie.
Received this email from my student yesterday about our Feel Great Fridays. This is my 3rd year doing these and it has 100% changed the mood and tone of my class. To see what students submit https://t.co/glRXPs9Ub1 & then I read them at the end of class
Dear student emailing to assure me you are usually a better student than you have been so far in our class this semester: You are fine. I believe you. We are in a pandemic and I am usually a better teacher than I have been this semester, too. Signed, me.
For centuries, the myth of a white Greece/Rome has been used to justify colonialism and white supremacy. We teachers need to debunk that myth, embrace the historically multicultural Mediterranean, and amplify black and brown Classicists’ voices. https://t.co/fB6NOb97Ab
Idk who needs to hear this, but Christianity isn’t the solution to racism. My humanity shouldn’t be predicated on your religious faith and its variations.
