If a pupil can’t hold a book or turn the pages, the answer isn’t to remove the book — it’s to adapt it. Change the access, not the expectation. Literacy belongs to everyone.

For pupils with complex needs, small moments matter when adults act deliberately: printed names at registration, modelling AAC in routines & pausing for responses are all ways to embed it.
