@1goodtern Low covid is actually the ideal time for everyone to don masks/stay in for 3 weeks, since that's the best bet for elimination.
But unfortunately that needs global cooperation and most of us don't even have our family's cooperation.
Weβre really just gonna keep watching celebrities and regular people become seriously ill, disabled and die at young ages and say nothing to be done, canβt be all those covid infections, huh? That living with covid plan is going fucking great.
I would like to join the chorus of CC voices saying:
If you are not masking and avoiding infections... It shows. You may not realize, but your sharpness, your compassion, your humanity... Is declining.
It is not too late to turn the brain damage trian around. #MaskUp.
maybe the sport has made peace with it, but i never will. as a female fan, seeing a man with multiple abuse allegations celebrated as a grand slam champion would make a mockery of everything this sport claims to stand for. this is NOT a fairytale, this is a dark day
cdc never started relaxing covid guidance because "covid was over" it was to supply workers for non-essential normie shit ("thE eCOnOmy")
later on it was more specifically delta airlines staff kept getting sick so they lobbied the govt to force them back to work while still ill
If one person think SARS-CoV-2 means "common cold", and another person knows COVID-19 is a life-span altering vascular disease, we are living in two very different realities my friend
Oh, what a difference.
Apr 30th, I found this little guy in my attic, 2 weeks old, about the size of my hand, pretty much unconscious, and on the verge of death. I laid his little body on the bed while I put my shoes on to take him to the hospital.
He spent 5 days in the hospital. We donβt talk about the cost β but it was worth every penny.
Today, Jun 5th, he is healthy, happy, and has most definitely outgrown my hand. And that is a wonderful thing.
OMG So Arnaldi has a virus that is probably either Norovirus or COVID based on the description of symptoms and he's been in the same room with Cobolli who will now be in the final and no one is MASKED? I will be so pissed if Cobolli catches it!
COVID Is Different
I get it. You think COVID isnβt that dangerous anymore. You think itβs just like all the other viruses now.
A lot of it has to do with the times you grew up in. We donβt have much memory of viruses and bacteria killing thousands of people. We donβt remember when it was common for families to lose at least one child to infection before WWII. We donβt remember the permanent scars smallpox left on peoples faces. What we remember are colds and flu. Fever, aches, a few days down. Then you bounce back.
That became our baseline for what βsickβ looks like.
COVID came around. At first, people freaked out. Millions died. Then something shifted. It slid into the same mental bucket as everything else. Just another cold. Just another flu.
Itβs not.
If you grew up in a second or third world country, places where serious diseases still circulate, you know the difference. Zika is different. Ebola is different. Polio is different. Each virus does its own kind of damage. We used to understand that. Now weβre making the mistake of normalizing something we donβt understand.
Flu and colds donβt breach your blood-brain barrier. SARS-CoV-2 does.
Flu and colds donβt shred your endothelial lining and increase your risk of blood clots. SARS-CoV-2 does.
Flu and colds donβt persist in your tissues. SARS-CoV-2 can.
Flu and colds donβt damage your immune system, causing low T cells. SARS-CoV-2 can.
Now weβre seeing signs it may increase your risk of cancer. SARS-CoV-2 may do this.
The list goes on.
Long COVID is caused by SARS-CoV-2. Itβs devastating millions of people. Stop expecting it to act like something itβs not.
Want to break the mental spell? Go to PubMed. Search SARS-CoV-2 or Long COVID. Hundreds of thousands of studies staring you in the face. Tons of damage.
Maybe youβve been infected a dozen times and you still feel fine. Will that always be the case? Donβt bet on it.
COVID is different because you can catch it every year. You can catch it multiple times in a single year. It mutates fast. Do you really want something that damages your arteries hitting your system over and over?
I sure donβt.
