In Pulwama this venerable old man’s face was lined with tears, terrorised by the mere thought of losing the land that’s sustained not just him but his forefathers too.
Land is a deeply emotive issue for Kashmiris. It’s what binds them to their identity. After an elected government took over in 2024 people expected relief & security. Instead a full scale eviction drive from Sidhra to Pulwama is in full swing. What will be achieved by turning our own people destitute? May better sense prevail.
After meeting cultivators in Padgampora, Pulwama, @IltijaMufti_ questioned the NC government and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the Revenue portfolio, over the move to evict people from lands that are their only source of livelihood.
Many have spent their life savings, sold jewellery, and taken bank loans to cultivate these lands. What is the government’s intent behind uprooting families whose survival depends on them.
Strong leaders stand with people, not power. @IltijaMufti_'s visit to meet farmers in Pulwama sends a clear message, the fight to protect land, livelihoods, and dignity will continue. A voice that refuses to stay silent when people need support.

Revenue Department is trying to snatch 2000 canals of fertile agricultural land in Dangerpora Pulwama from poor families who’ve cultivated paddy here since centuries. Like Sidhra the JK Government here too is misusing police to implement these illegal diktats by threatening to slap PSA against protesters. @manojsinha_@JmuKmrPolice
Kashmir’s land belongs to it’s people. Appalled that the locally elected government leaves no stone unturned to strip people of their land to ensure they become landless & homeless. @CM_JnK
Farmers across Kashmir, especially in South Kashmir, are in the middle of paddy cultivation, but several irrigation stations are unable to lift water due to power disconnections over pending departmental dues.
Farmers should not suffer because of inter-departmental issues. Requesting @CM_JnK to intervene and restore electricity to irrigation stations at the earliest. FYI @OmarAbdullah@OfficeOfLGJandK

13 year old Iqra went missing in Poonch for five days - until her body was recovered from Sathra river. The circumstances leading upto her death appear hazy & disturbing.
First Budgam now Poonch - there are beasts roaming amongst us who prey upon little girls. As a society where are we headed? @PoonchDm@PoonchPolice
Unfortunate that PDP Leader & leading social activist Talib Chowdhary has been jailed for fighting for the rights of poor marginalised tribal community. Treating him like a criminal simply for taking out a peaceful march against an arbitrary demolition drive in Sidhra sends a chilling negative message to Gujjar Bakerwals who have always stood by India. Talib must be released @manojsinha_@JmuKmrPolice
Only if they’d spent even half of this energy about why she visited on WHY AIIMS Awantipora still remains incomplete a decade after Mufti Sahab laid its foundation in 2015! At least for whatever reason AIIMS Awantipora is back in focus. This government’s priorities & sense of entitlement will cost people of J&K deeply. @IltijaMufti_
What Sonam Wangchuk is to Ladakh, Talib Hussain is to the marginalized community of J&K. We stand in unwavering solidarity with our brother Talib, a selfless leader who has devoted himself not just to his own community, but to every marganalized voice.
With great courage, he has consistently represented the aspirations of the his people, even while facing relentless hardships for decades. A few days ago, while fighting against the Bulldozer Raj affecting his community, that courage cost him his freedom. He has been jailed.
There is hardly any leader in the Gujjar community who comes close to Talib Hussain when it comes to activism & fighting for the rights of his community. While others operated from big houses away from people, Talib stood on the frontlines with his people: in protests, in courtrooms, and in the quiet homes where marganalization & injustice lingers.
He is not just intelligent & articulate leader, but a selfless force who rose among people in poverty & suffocation, not from privileges. Talib's very existence is a symbol of resilience. He is perhaps the only organic politician of Gujjar community with a decade long history of activism, rooted in the suffering & in the struggles of ordinary people.
Every voice of conscience & every politician must acknowledge someone like Talib, must stand with him & must demand his immediate release.
PDPs Talib Hussain arrested last week has been accused in his chargesheet of attacking the police with ‘deadly missiles’. Pray tell what missiles were these? Talib didn’t fling a single stone.
All he did was articulate the injustice of families whose homes were demolished.
Imagine the state of affairs in J&K if a man is thrown into jail on the basis of such ludicrous allegations? That too in the Hon’ble High Court?
Release Talib Hussain immediately.

Yes, Autonomy Resolution to business rules that’s what 50 MLAs of NC have achieved.
And spare us the history lessons. The National Conference emerged from the dissolution of the Muslim Conference and Muslim identity.
