Eyes glued to the screen. Watching results come in. Heart racing.
One thing I know is true. Regardless of election results locally and nationally we have a LOT of work to do to rebuild trust in our institutions.
Here for that work. I believe.
Informative tour of Terminal 6 with @portofportland leaders today. 📦🚢🚉
Terminal 6 is Oregon’s only container terminal that handles international cargo, with businesses from every corner of our state relying on it to access global markets.
Short 🧵
Today I’m proud to have voted as Metro Councilor and JPACT Chair to approve and program the historic $450 million reconnecting communities grant to build a highway cover in the I5 Rose Quarter and re-knit the Albina community. The Metro Council voted unanimously to approve.
RECYCLING THE OREGON WAY.
Highlighting an important topic during today’s @oregonmetro Council Work Session: A presentation on the Plastic Pollution and Recycling Modernization Act (RMA). The bill was signed into law 2021. Changes go into effect 2025.
I last got to meet President @JoeBiden when he was in PDX in April of 2022. His administration has made incredible strides in American infrastructure and ensuring our federal gov’t represents all of us. I am incredibly grateful for his service to our country. Thank you.
An absolute honor to join AHIVOY tonight for their annual celebration and support my dear friends Elena Rodriguez (@AlumbraC) and Miguel Lopez.
AHIVOY is a mighty organization that works with Latinx and Hispanic vineyard workers throughout the Willamette Valley.
construction decades ago. This is a landmark transportation & restorative justice project led by @AlbinaVisionPDX & local partners.
When we lead with our values, the Portland region wins. The $450M award is the largest award of the program to any city or region in the nation.
A momentous morning: JPACT has approved the implementation of$450 million @USDOT reconnecting communities grant awarded to the Portland region’s I-5 Rose Quarter Project. The grant will fund a highway cap to reconnect Albina’s historically black neighborhood divided by I-5
Been a huge fan of @RazaFund CEO Annie Donovan since she joined the org 2 years ago. She’s leading the largest Latino-focused CDFI in the country and driving BIG $$$ to community orgs, projects and initiatives.
Great to catch up at @WeAreUnidosUS Annual Conference. #UnidosUS24
This is OUR government working. Breaking down silos. Going the extra mile. I’m proud that the Metro team played a part in this effort to keep the Rose City 🌹 beautiful.
Join me at the @WeAreUnidosUS Annual Conference to push back against those trying to hinder Latino progress. It’s our time to inspire action and continue advancing. #ProudBoardMember#UnidosUS24 https://t.co/JMLqrKzXhR
Let me help you out and give you my thoughts on DEI
1. Diversity
Good businesses look where others don't, to find the employees that will put your business in the best possible position to succeed.
You may not agree, but I take it as a given that there are people of various races, ethnicities, orientation, etc that are regularly excluded from hiring consideration. By extending our hiring search to include them, we can find people that are more qualified. The loss of DEI-Phobic companies is my gain.
1a. We live in a country with very diverse demographics. In this era where trust of businesses can be hard to come by, people tend to connect more easily to people who are like them. Having a workforce that is diverse and representative of your stakeholders is good for business.
Breaking ground on over 60 units of affordable housing coming to Aloha right by TV hwy and 174th. These future homes are made possible by the Metro Housing Bond and the hard work of @BRIDGEhousing and LMC Construction. Housing has been a key priority for me since I joined Council
Progress on TV Hwy ✅
Really thrilled to celebrate the “ribbon cutting” of a new bilingual safety crossing beacon on a very busy stretch of TV Highway in Downtown Cornelius.
Transformation is built on partnerships. This last weekend, several agency leads toured 17 miles of TV highway as part of the big transportation project the region is undertaking. We rode one of @trimet’s new FX (Frequent Express) articulated (bendy) busses…..
