A VOGUE Spain published an article dedicated to ROSALÍA and Loli Bahia’s relationship, highlighting the way the two live their romance publicly:
“In these regressive times that suffocate us, it is comforting and beautiful (and even political) to see two admired women choosing each other and showing affection in public. ROSALÍA invites her girlfriend to come closer in front of the paparazzi, not to attract attention, but to make it clear that she will not (because she should not) hide. Today, we allow ourselves to celebrate their apparent happiness; we hope that the two of them remain just as happy.”
We will not be organizing any voting campaign for the VMAs. We understand the relevance of this award show, especially for artists who are just starting their careers and seeking greater international recognition. However, that is not ROSALÍA’s situation.
We recognize that her presence in Latin GRAMMY categories makes sense within the award’s own structure, which specifically celebrates Latin music and artists working within that context. The issue, therefore, is not the existence of these categories, but the insistence on limiting ROSALÍA to that framework in award shows that should recognize the international scope and breadth of her work.
After dedicating years to the creative process behind LUX, studying women’s stories in depth, working with teachers and specialists, and developing an album that spans 13 languages, it is frustrating to see her once again confined to categories that do not fully represent the scope of her work.
ROSALÍA deserves to be recognized beyond her origins or the language in which she began her career. This became evident through the reception and recognition she received at award shows such as the BRITs and The Ivors, which demonstrated an understanding of her artistic significance and the scale of her work.
ROSALÍA is no longer simply a Spanish artist who makes music in Spanish. She is an international artist who has built a career defined by projects such as El Mal Querer, MOTOMAMI, and LUX, continuously expanding the boundaries of her artistic language.
