Anti-corruption alone cannot build an economy. Sri Lanka needs growth, investment, jobs and social mobility. The SJB has consistently argued that economic recovery must be matched by opportunity and prosperity for all Sri Lankans. #LKA

Bangladesh is seeking a more realistic agreement with the IMF not for politics, but to ease the burden on ordinary people facing today’s global realities. Sri Lanka must think about people’s welfare. Economic policy cannot become a waiting game where action comes only after shortages return, prices spiral further, and families are pushed to the edge. The responsibility of leadership is to protect people before suffering becomes unbearable. Act now, while there is still time to prevent deeper hardship.
Women’s health is not a “women’s issue.” It is the foundation of every family. The people who carry the greatest burden of care in our homes should not have to neglect their own wellbeing to care for everyone else.
What kind of society are we building if our mothers and daughters are expected to endure pain quietly, while those who speak openly or seek support are judged?
Women who take care of themselves should be respected. Men who support them should be applauded, not mocked.
Menstrual Hygiene Day should remind us of one painful truth: period poverty should not exist in any compassionate society. Not in this day and age. Not anywhere.
Today, the Opposition came together in unity because the country is once again staring at a dangerous economic warning sign. The rapid depreciation of the Rupee, rising cost pressures, and growing uncertainty cannot be treated as a partisan issue.
We have therefore decided to formally request President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to convene an All Party Conference immediately to develop urgent national solutions before this situation escalates further.
Petrol is already back near crisis levels. The rupee has fallen 14% this year. Our IMF programme ends in March 2027 and the government has no plan for what comes next. Negotiate now while we still have something to negotiate with. Every crisis was negotiated after the reserves were gone, which always put Sri Lanka in the worst possible negotiating position, its best we work towards a successor programme immediately before there is a crisis.
While others trade slogans and excuses, Opposition Leader @sajithpremadasa has laid out a clear vision for Sri Lanka, a social market economy, people-centered development, and a progressive middle path that rejects both failed extremes.

. @NalindaJay, I wonder what you mean by “mentality.”
I opposed these reforms because school modules contained glaring errors, including links to porn sites.
If that passed your review, the real question is not my mentality it’s your competence. So please do your homework before judging others.

SJB membership of the person accused of narcotics related arrest yesterday has been suspended with immediate effect and a separate inquiry will be initiated to take further relevant action in this regard. @sjbsrilanka as a party is vehemently opposed to the narco trade which is a cancer to our society and we firmly believe in reformulating our laws in order to institute the highest punishment on those who engage in this illegal reprehensible activity.
