I’ll be posting icebreaker ideas on Monday and Leadership ideas on Thursdays. Give me a follow to stay in touch and check out https://t.co/BvgTerP1GY if we can work together!
Internal vs. external focus are examples of #polarities. More to come on this next week!
Where would your team land on a spectrum of internal vs. external focus? Shoot a message if you’d like support reframing how your team operates and taking things to the next level. (7/7)
A #leadership idea: consider where your team sits on the spectrum of internal orientation to external orientation.
On a more internally oriented team, the focus tends to be on cross-functional stakeholders, regular meetings, planning, documentation, and presentations. (1/7)
If your team is too externally focused, you may be missing opportunities to learn and scale. Develop top performers and provide chances for them to lead in internal channels. Ensure customer learnings become part of strategy and goals. See what competitors are offering. (6/7)
Today's icebreaker, Interview Swap, is especially great for new teams.
Split the group into pairs. Have one person from each pairing take 2-3 min to interview their partner about their life and work, taking some notes to help remember key details. Then, swap roles. (1/4)
Interview Swap helps form new connections and encourages an environment where people feel seen and heard. It also helps people build active listening skills and reminds everyone that relationships matter. (3/4)
Why do this? You can’t preplan since you have no idea the word that’s coming to you from the person before you. Together, though, the final result is often more interesting than what one person would have produced — #teamwork!

How do you ensure your teammates are plugged in and listening to one another?
Today’s icebreaker is a classic short form improv game - Dr. Know It All.
This works best with groups of 3-4 at a time and can be adjusted for in person or hybrid.
When the group feels they are done, they make eye contact and mumble in a professorial manner. Rotate groups to ensure everyone gets to be part of Dr. Know It All and an audience member.
Truly focus on what each business unit needs to deliver and how that drives overall organizational success in a measurable way. (6/6)

One of the challenges at many companies is pages and pages of OKRs and team goals. Everyone says they want simplicity, yet it always seems easier to add to the laundry list than to cut.
A few thoughts here. (1/6)
Stop the copy and paste of goals as you ladder up that leads to a smorgasbord of corporate jargon. The focus on accountability and completeness can be a detriment to inspiration and clarity. (5/6)
