Today gave me something I genuinely haven’t felt in a while… hope. ❤️

Reform Net (改革网) isn’t just a random blog or fan article. It’s a legitimate Chinese media outlet operated by the China Development and Reform Newspaper, associated with the National Development and Reform Commission’s media system.

That doesn’t make this article official government policy, but it does mean it’s a serious contribution to the discussion, not just social media speculation.

What encouraged me most wasn’t that it promised Valko’s return. It didn’t.

It recognized something many of us have been trying to show for weeks: overseas support didn’t disappear after the cancellation. Petitions, fan art, charitable donations, cosplay, offline events, and continued discussion all represent meaningful market feedback that deserves to be measured, not ignored.

The article even argues that companies have more options than simply “launch immediately” or “permanently cancel,” and that sustained global demand should be considered as part of long-term product planning.

Whether Valko returns is still ultimately PaperGames’ decision. But seeing a respected Chinese publication acknowledge the value of global player feedback feels like an important step. It tells me our voices are at least part of the conversation.

I’ve now read through the series of opinion articles written by Jimu News commentator 纪评 (Ji Ping?) about Valko (yes that one), and I honestly disagree with both the conclusions and the approach. I did use a translator so some of this could be off but I believe I have understood this as best as I can with my resources.

The timeline is what stood out to me.

June 24: 纪评 criticized Valko’s introduction, including his “Westernized” appearance and the decision to add a sixth Love Interest.

June 28: Another opinion piece criticized Infold’s response to the backlash.

June 29: An opinion article argued that Valko’s balcony scene romanticized dangerous behavior and used women’s safety as a marketing gimmick.

Later June 29: Another commentary criticized Infold’s handling of the controversy.

June 30: After Valko was cancelled, another article argued the company still hadn’t gone far enough.

That’s multiple opinion columns published in less than a week, all centered on the same controversy.

To me, that doesn’t read like a careful literary analysis.

A genuine literary analysis would ask questions like:

What genre conventions is the scene using?

How does Valko’s established relationship with the protagonist change the context?

What role do fantasy and symbolism play?

How have similar tropes existed in gothic romance, paranormal romance, fairy tales, and fantasy literature for generations?

Instead, the articles largely interpret the fiction through a literal real-world lens and treat that interpretation as self-evident.

I also disagree with the implication that this perspective represents women as a whole.

‼️Women are not a monolith.‼️

Some women dislike dangerous romantic tropes.

Some women enjoy them because they are discerning enough to understand the difference between fantasy and reality.

Enjoying a fictional werewolf climbing onto a balcony is not the same as endorsing that behavior in real life.

Criticism of fiction is important. Disliking Valko is a valid opinion. Feeling uncomfortable with a scene is also valid.

But I don’t think one commentator’s interpretation should be treated as speaking for all women or as a definitive reading of the work itself.

To me, these articles read more like a rapidly unfolding series of reactive opinion columns responding to a fast-moving controversy than a balanced literary critique of Love and Deepspace or Valko.

This is true. I just have had experiences where people say spreading the message or telling the truth of what a boycott literally is is “hostile”
There’s no point in name calling or things like that you’re right and there’s only so much one can say before it’s just badgering. It’s a balance you’re right.

I’ll admit something.

I have a pessimistic streak when it comes to the things I love. I always worry they’re somehow destined to disappear. That’s why I’m so afraid Valko won’t come back.

But these past few days have also given me something I didn’t expect: hope.

Seeing the overwhelming love for Valko, reading everyone’s stories, and watching people from all over the world come together has made this feel so much less lonely. So many of us carry our own struggles, and somehow we’ve found each other through this little wolf. 🐺❤️

What has moved me most, though, is seeing fans turn their heartbreak into kindness by donating to meaningful causes in Valko’s name. That is such a beautiful form of protest. Instead of spreading hate, people are choosing compassion and changing real lives.

I’ve honestly never witnessed a global gaming community respond quite like this.

Whatever happens next, I hope we never lose that spirit.

Valko is loved, as are the people fighting for him.
