Onto this afternoon’s conference sessions - right now we’re at @SpazjuKreattiv for our Young Europe meeting, discussing our Young Europe IV project with our partners 👇
How do we push back against some of what these 18 months has forced us to do - more co-productions, collaborations, common meeting spaces. So we are not talking amongst ourselves, so we're discussing with our European colleagues and our young people - it's all on the agenda.
Bashar Murkus: "As artists, we understood that organisations have had to act fast. Now, we want them to give us opportunities and take some risks with us. We have questioned the basic element of theatre; how we meet the audience? We need to be invited into these discussions."
The panel are addressing a question from our live stream audience; "In the UK we are finding audiences are less interested in digital theatre now theatres are open, they want the magic. Yet digital theatre has increased accessibility. How do we keep digital theatre exciting?"
Bashar Murkus (Palestinian director @KhashabiTheatre); "The problem is when censorship turns inside to you. We want to be outside of this and to take responsibility for what we do, carefully choosing our projects. It's not just a political statement. It's an artistic statement."
What bits of our theatre machine have made it through the pandemic? Can we now slow down and rebuild or reconstruct the machine that we once knew? Is there enough time?

"Most of us were brought up as Roman Cathaloics, we pray to Allah. We say Bonjour (Bonġu) but then say Goodnight. We say Jekk jogħġbok for please but thank with Grazzi. The knights here built the first European Union. We are a nation built on exchange." @europeantheatre
We’re here at the welcome desk at Hotel Excelsior in #Valletta for day one of the ETC International Theatre Conference, with @teatrumalta! 2 days of discussions about the future of #theatre with European theatres. Stay tuned for updates!@europe_creative
„We strongly believe this encounter will provide the European theatre community with an opportunity to discuss boundary-pushing ideas“ Albert Marshall @ArtsCouncilMLT
