😂😂😂 reminds me of myself when i was that kid as well... in as much as he's reducing your workload it's actually exciting for him to be trusted with those tasks although basic. i'm 8 years in, in the Support field and i actually enjoy giving "juniors" that responsibility.

The new intern just asked me if I can teach him about our network architecture.

Smart kid. Eager. Reminds me of myself ten years ago.

I said absolutely, and I've started showing him all our systems.

But here's what I'm really doing: I'm training him to handle all the boring shit I don't want to do anymore.

Password resets? Teaching him.
Basic troubleshooting? His now.
Routine maintenance tasks? I'm creating detailed documentation for him.

In three months, he's going to be handling 60% of my workload.

My boss thinks I'm being a great mentor.

The intern thinks he's getting valuable experience.

I'm just delegating everything tedious.

Everybody wins!

Someone just submitted a ticket asking why their laptop is running slow.

I remote in. They have 3 Chrome windows open with 60+ tabs total.

I close all but 5 tabs. Computer runs fine now.

I write in the ticket: "Resolved - Optimized system memory allocation and cleared background processes."

They reply: "Wow, thank you! What was wrong?"

I reply: "Just some resource management issues. Should be good now."

I didn't lie. I just used technical language to describe "you had way too many tabs open."

If I say "close your tabs," they'll feel scolded. If I say "optimized memory allocation," they'll feel helped.

Same result, better optics.

Also, they'll probably open 60 tabs again next week and submit another ticket.

And I'll "optimize" it again.

This is called job security.

Someone from Finance just asked me to recover a file they deleted "by accident."

I checked the trash. Not there.

I checked the backup. Found it. Restored it in 2 minutes.

But I didn't tell them that.

I said, "Let me see what I can do. This might take a while since the file was permanently deleted. I'll need to check our backup archives."

Then I went to the break room, got coffee, scrolled through my phone for 20 minutes.

Came back and sent them the file with: "Got lucky - found it in a backup snapshot from last night. Anything older would have been much harder to retrieve."

They replied: "You're a lifesaver! Thank you so much!"

Here's why I do this:

If people think file recovery is quick and easy, they'll be careless. They'll delete things and just assume I can magic them back.

But if they think I had to dig through archives and got "lucky," they'll be more careful next time.

Plus, now I look like a hero instead of someone who just clicked "restore."
