Equality of opportunity through technology. Making the world a better place, with technology, for those who need it the most. A #TechForGOOD non-profit org
"Technology is a key driver of aggregate economic growth, through productivity improvements, but its contribution to economic growth varies greatly across countries. Tech can also be a driver of income & wealth inequality because of its skills-bias nature" @UNESCAP#TechEqual
The most promising & potentially the most disruptive emerging technology trends are, according to (OECD, 2016) big data, IoT, AI, additive manufacturing, nano/microsatellites, neurotechnologies, synthetic biology, nanomaterials, advanced energy storage technologies & blockchain.
"The impact of technology on inequality is country-specific. Thus, measures aiming at ensuring that technologies do not exacerbate inequalities, will vary" ~ @UNESCAP report Chapter 4, Technology & Inequalities
..So, it is humans that will decide if technology creates inequality!
"Frontier technologies, such as AI, are likely to intensify both the divides and the dividends. New technologies can create and reinforce inequality of outcome and opportunity with an implicit impact on the environment." ~ @UNESCAP report 'Inequalities in Asia' #TechEqual
"The potential of technologies to reduce inequality in opportunities is vast but is not automatic. It largely depends on the capabilities of the poor to access and use technologies and solutions that respond to their needs." ~ @UNESCAP
"The relationship between technology & inequality is multifaceted. Technology has enhanced productivity, accelerated economic growth, enabled knowledge & information sharing & increased access to basic services. However, it has also been the cause of inequalities." ~ @UNESCAP
"Instead of blaming tech, there is actually the possibility that technological innovations can lead to more job & income opportunities, & to more equal societal outcomes." ~ @UNUniversity@wimnaude@PaulaNagler
In 2017 @hernaes wrote, "Technology does not cause income disparity, but enables increased efficiency and wealth creation. The problem is how we choose to distribute the wealth and benefits of increased efficiency."
In 2020, we have not resolved this. Can't blame tech!

Technology equality can either create a greater digital divide or close the gap.
We have a specific message about why it needs to close the #digitaldivide
