Seasonally flooded Pantanal forest a net carbon sink, but net forcing due to methane fluxes.
Net ecosystem C balance (NECB) = [fCH4+fCO2] minus DOC export.
Net radiative forcing = CO2+CO2equiv of methane

Silvopasture - or grazing animals among trees - can sequester 5-10X more carbon than grazing on pasture.
But there’s been very little federal investment in silvopasture research & projects, making it difficult for farmers to implement the practice.

Trade + pandemic aid have made up a large portion of farm income for the last few years.
This is not a sustainable way to keep farmers in business. Instead, we should ensure they receive fair prices by addressing overproduction & corporate consolidation.

Interestingly, when I asked @ImpossibleFoods whether the recent news reported that over 80% of plant based burger ingredients are being sourced from China were true for their product, I received no response. Ingredient sourcing and ultra-processing seem to be soft spots for IF.
I'm grateful for everyone who found work in August and found that glimmer of hope — but there is real cause for concern in this morning's jobs report.
The pace of job gains in August was slower than in July. And significantly slower than May or June.
2.4M farm workers are risking their lives through the pandemic to put food on our tables. But 1M are undocumented - which means they can't access medical & financial services they need.

To have a full understanding of the true warming impact of livestock emissions, the biogenic carbon cycle must be part of the conversation. Check out this short, digestible video and share with: #rethinkingmethane
As we head into Labor Day weekend, please wear a mask, practice social distancing, and wash your hands.
Coronavirus cases are still on the rise in states across our country and these simple acts can protect you, the people you love, and complete strangers.
Why do we need to #SaveThePostOffice? Because the success of rural communities and our democratic process literally depend on it.
Rural Americans depend on USPS to:
-vote
-get RX meds
-buy farm supplies + bees & chicks
-pay bills
-receive paychecks
-run their business
Your participation is critical to getting the Farmers Union message and on-the-ground stories from rural America in front of Congress. RMFU is offering members a $100 stipend plus $100 to their respective chapter for joining the virtual Fly-in. https://t.co/bNl3O4KASv
