Rules tell students what not to do, which is important. But, procedures, routines, expectations, and responsibilities teach students what to do, which is even more important!
I think we need to say we love our jobs a lot more. Not only in front of our students but to each other. We need to remember as difficult as this job is thereβs still joy in this work.
π Integrated relationships are critical to achieve the depth of understanding needed for success in Ss, Ts, and As. It's also important to focus on parent partnerships. I believe genuine relationships = listening to understand which will bring success for all.
The teacher-student relationship is critical for success in the classroom, and the administration-teacher relationship is critical for success of a school. Relationships before rigor!
The first week of school should focus on building relationships. And part of that is establishing routines, procedures, and expectations. Consistency helps students feel more secure.
Relationships are important for a smooth school year and team building is a big part of that in our CTE environment. Ss spent their first days back from summer identifying values that are important to them in our workplace. #blessed
With the new year comes new vigor, excitement, and expectations. Lets help our students become their very best. But let's also remember that everyone struggles with something. So lets never forget to be kind, caring, and forgiving. "Relationships before Rigor".
Effective teachers don't focus so much on rules, but more on relationships, routines, & expectations. If you focus mainly on rules, you will spend most of the year enforcing them. But if you focus on relationships, routines, & expectations, you rarely have to defer back to rules.
@IHeartCKH tools π my go-to since my very first training way back in '09. Honestly good practices.π‘My takeaway today - Coach up w/diversity in mind. Create a mutual understanding and respect for everybody's differences. β Result = a more open and accepting environment.
This is how I learned to plan so many years ago. #PBL is what I know well and lends itself to BD. It comes naturally in "my world". π Pretty sure this is how my teachers operated many moons ago. Rubrics upon rubrics set the pace and defined desired results. π
If students arenβt getting enough physical education, movement, & recess, donβt blame them when they get restless, fidgety, & canβt focus in class. Children are active by nature & need to move. Exercise enhances focus, self regulation and brain performance.
@DrBradJohnson This is great! I value admin who truly get to know the worth of those around them. Authentic relationships build character and inspire growth.
As a leader it's important to practice what you preach. If your focus on building relationships with kids outweighs your focus to build relationships with your employees, you're doing it wrong. Get out & see the value in your people. Then truly value them. #RetainAndRecruit
Please stop saying that we need to increase teacher salaries in order βrecruit the best and brightestβ as if the best and brightest are not currently teaching.
We need to increase teacher salaries because those currently teaching deserve and earned it.
I think one of the most telling attributes of an effective leader is that they bring out the best in those they lead. Imagine what a staff can do when they feel valued, supported, and appreciated!
