@YusufAsunmogejo Don't mind VDM @YusufAsunmogejo. They don't really know the meaning of Shariah Law. If truly sharaiah law are to be implemented those killing and kidnapping people would not stand to witness another day once they are be caught.
If MTN needed ₦100 billion next month, where do you think they get it from?
Most people assume the bank. Wrong.
They often skip the bank entirely and borrow directly from investors. People like you. It’s called a Commercial Paper, and it’s one of the most slept-on instruments in Nigeria.
Here’s the deal.
A strong company needs short-term cash. Instead of a slow, expensive bank loan, they borrow from the public for 90 to 270 days and pay you interest for the use of your money.
Now the interesting part. The numbers.
In 2025, commercial papers averaged around 22.4%. Some went higher. That was often well above what Treasury Bills were paying at the time.
One catch you must know. Since late 2025, a 10% withholding tax applies. So a 22% paper gives you roughly 19.8% after tax. Still strong. Still competitive.
And these aren’t shady names. Recent issuers include MTN, Access Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Fidson Healthcare, and FCMB. Companies you already know.
You access them through your stockbroker or investment platform.
So here’s what the wealthy understand that most people don’t.
They don’t just save. They lend. To the government through bonds and bills. To big companies through commercial papers. Money flowing in from every direction at once.
Meanwhile, most people leave their money sleeping in a current account, earning nothing, losing value to inflation every single day.
Your money should never sleep. Put it to work in as many places as it can safely go.
