Well after a little research on this topic turns out my assumption was wrong! Ductile cast iron pipe is used for water mains on potable water systems in Chicago and is used nationwide wide.. My apologies for any confusion they look very similar :)

@WallStreetApes That is a cast iron SEWER line you can tell by the hub on the fittings I worked construction in Chicago years ago thought it was crazy they were still installing that stuff rather than PVC.

However I was informed that they also use ductile cast iron for potable water. PVC is toxic and I would never use that for potable water jus saying.
