@WetDirt2000@OfficialBenSaff That BP is critical. That's when it vaporizes. The expansion ratio is about 1:200-1:300. 1 gallon of liquid MMA becomes 200-300 gallons of vapor MMA. The tank can't hold that pressure. That's why it's critical to keep it below BP. 7,000 gallons liquid = 1.5-2m gallons of vapor.
@WetDirt2000@OfficialBenSaff It's flash point is around 36ยฐF. Boiling point around 214ยฐF. Explosive range is 1.7%-8.2% concentration of vapor in the air. When that liquid comes out, it's going to be above flashpoint. You will have rapid dispersement and hit that explosive range. Any spark ignites it.
@WetDirt2000@OfficialBenSaff The autoignition temp is about 800ยฐF. What you get is, within milliseconds, a high pressure blast of this liquid that the force alone would create friction of even 2 metal shrapnel fragment, you get a spark, you get rapid explosion propelling the now ignited concentrated MMA.
@OfficialBenSaff I think the problem is that they don't really have any idea what the internal pressure is right now. They can guestimate by volume, heat... but they don't know how much has polymerized even. And they have the tank specs but don't know exactly what THAT tank will blow out at.
@sleazyslays@grok@ABC7 if the tank ruptured from pressure, it blows out this heated MMA monomer liquid, which then mixes into the air, and it will disperse very very quickly, milliseconds. Some of it will quickly hit that explosion concentration range, and ignite, and.. fireball.
@sleazyslays@grok@ABC7 It's a Class IB. Ignition temp/flash point is =< 73ยฐF. Boil point => 100ยฐF. But combustion requires oxygen. The explosion range is when the amount of MMA vapor concentration in the air is about 1.7%-8.2%.
@grok@sleazyslays@ABC7 MMA is a class IB (one bee) liquid, with a flash point at or below 73ยฐF and a boiling point at or above 100ยฐF. The reason for not knowing the explosion temperature is that they can only estimate the internal pressure.

@AccidentalCISO Matt Rife is great for the darker humor, great crowd work. Elyse Myers is great for actual light hearted therapy. Josh Johnson is also one of my favs, the way he tells stories.
@roguekode Some would argue that you still can. But if you don't slam it down hard enough to break it, there's that awkward moment where you have to pick it up and press the hang up button.
