WPS 101: Grayzone Tactics vs Transparency Tactics
When we talk about issues on the #WestPhilippineSea, it is important to understand what is being done about it. The most basic of this is understanding how each country addresses the issue.
#China is implementing what is generally called the Grayzone Tactics. The Australian Army's definition of this states: confrontation, and conflict relates to the use of non-military means – below the threshold of armed conflict – to achieve political objectives.
This is the reason why the primary players in the aggresive actions in the area are the Chinese Coast Guard and Maritime Militias because as per definition these are civilian entities and as such can not be considered as acts of war. This is also the reason why a military response from the #Philippines by deploying our Navy (or the gray ships) will be considered an act of war and thus will justify military retaliation from China which by all standards we know that we are at the losing side.
Our response is what is now called Transparency Tactics. We show to the whole world where we stand which is based on the 2016 Arbitral Ruling declaring the 9-dash line claim of China as invalid. This tactic allows a small country like ours to continue to assert our sovereign rights in our Exclusive Economic Zone through diplomacy and harnessing the power of information. The common world order is based on respect and condemnation of tyranny. No country should bully another country just because it can. In this case, we are showing to the world that we will continue to protect what is ours. The world responds by watching closely and becoming a deterrent against China.
We are not fighting a losing war, we are hitting where it hurts. Let us continue to support our country.
Merry Christmas everyone.
I was taught in PMA to follow the chain of command. I was taught not to involve in partisan politics.
As I mature in the service, I learned that these lessons are actually hallmarks of a professional Armed Forces that significantly contribute to the stability of the country.
I appeal to the people from all over who, voluntarily or not, are part of the toxic culture of "bardagulan" to support their political preferences, please spare your Armed Forces.
Honestly nakakafrustrate. Bahala na kayo sa bardagulan nyo. Hwag nyo na lang idamay yung mga nagsusumikap na maiambag ang kanilang serbisyo para sa bansang Pilipinas.
This is a rant, but THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL POST.
At 12:06 on Saturday, the Philippine ship 9701 deliberately rammed into the Chinese ship 5205 in an unprofessional and dangerous manner, causing a collision for which the Philippines bears full responsibility: China Coast Guard https://t.co/XwSmcUIPYR
@globaltimesnews Assuming that the debris indeed came from the Philippines, posting about it does not change that you are tresspassing within the Philippines EEZ. Picking trash from another person's backyard does not justify that you are tresspassing. That is assuming that this video is legit.
WPS Perspective: China wants to engage us in a "boxing" match because they know they can win if its that. We also know that, that is why we are engaging them in a game of "chess." This is where we can win from them. While we continue to engage them in this imaginary Chess match, they force us into the boxing match., thus the violence and harassment.
As Filipinos, it is natural to feel the frustration seeing our soldiers looking helpless. The challenge is to look beyond that and recognize that we are playing a game of chess and not the boxing match that China wants to bring us in. We should foster the "Chess" mentality and not be drawn into China's intentions. We should look at the long game rather than react at the spur of our emotions. This is a long game, our best hope is standing together and trusting each other.
God Bless the Philippines!!!
The most important detail that should be highlighted is that all of these things happened within the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines. China posting these photos just validates what the whole world already knows... CHINA IS CONDUCTING ILLEGAL, COERCIVE, AGRESSIVE AND DECEPTIVE ACTIONS against the Philippines within her EEZ
There will never be any "professional and restrained" action by China within the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines. Their mere presence in the area is already a violation of International Law. PERIOD.
We have sovereign rights within our EEZ according to UNCLOS which was further validated by the 2016 Arbitral Ruling. Yung "Atin ito" is not actually politically correct as we do not have ownership of our EEZ, however UNCLOS has granted us Exclusive rights over the RESOURCES within our EEZ. I hope my little knowledge is able to clarify that
If a state party to the arbitration refuses to participate in the proceedings, the arbitration can still proceed, and a ruling can be made. According to Article 9 of Annex VII of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS):
- The arbitral tribunal will continue the proceedings and make an award if one party does not appear or fails to defend its case.
- The absence of a party does not prevent the proceedings from continuing.
- Before making an award, the tribunal must confirm that it has jurisdiction over the dispute and that the claim is well-founded in fact and law.
The effect of the arbitral ruling remains binding on all parties involved, including the non-participating state. This principle is reinforced by Article 296 of UNCLOS, which states that the decisions of the arbitral tribunal are final and binding on the parties to the dispute.
In practical terms, while the non-participating state may not engage in the process, it is still legally obligated to adhere to the tribunal's ruling. However, enforcement of the ruling may require additional diplomatic and legal efforts, particularly if the non-participating state continues to reject the outcome. The international community, including other states and international organizations, often plays a role in supporting the implementation and compliance with such rulings to maintain a rules-based international order.
By not abiding with the UNCLOS and ignoring the 2016 Arbitral Ruling, China is the one causing chaos in the region. The rules have been established and was signed by nations as a commitment to adhere to these rules. China has signed and then ignores their commitment. Whose causing chaos now?
Marcos tells Chinese general: South China Sea peace a ‘world issue’
WATCH: Chinese Major General Xu Hui is the first to ask a question after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s keynote address at the Shangri-la Dialogue in Singapore. Xu asks if the Philippines is ‘risking’ regional peace by ‘[considering] other parties’ comfort level’ in deciding what actions to take in the South China Sea. https://t.co/JqeDbZ28ec
Our best hope to assert our rights on the #WestPhilippineSea is our conduct in the exercise of these rights. It is obvious that our military is no match for #China, but our demonstration of resilience amidst their bullying will be our might. The world's collective action for adherence to a world order grounded on goodwill and respect among the community of nations is our weapon. A bully will continue to be a bully unless they are put in their place by a community that does not tolerate bullying.
It was just another day. The day of reckoning will come.
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!!!
LOOK | Six Philippine Navy personnel and essential cargoes were transferred from Unaizah May 4 and BRP Cabra (MRRV 4409) to BRP Sierra Madre by RHIB at 11:09 am. They arrived and moored at the starboard side of LS57 at 11:59 am.
Saw this very informative video on China's Salami Slicing Tactics. This explains why we need to call them out and expose their illegal, coercive, agressive and deceptive actions in the #WestPhilippinesSea
Share this to your friends, we need every Filipino to be united in protecting what is ours

This is how delirious #China is. They go to an area within the #Philippines Exclusive Economic Zone, harass their resupply vessel and then declare over social media that the Philippines is trespassing.
The world knows whose the bully here and there is no amount of propaganda that can change that. Ayungin Shoal is Philippine Territory. PERIOD

CPP NPA NDF Operatives are trying to divert the real issue on the death of Hannah Jay Cesista in Bohol. We must put an end to the rampant recruitment of promising young Filipinos to the NPA through their legal fronts.
Members of legal front organizations have been among those who died in encounters between government forces and the armed terrorist group CPP-NPA-NDF. Here are some of the students who first became activists and eventually become full-fledged armed members of the NPA and died.
Reposting this again in the light of the death of @anakbayan_ph Member turned NPA Hannah Jay Cesista in Bohol.
Again, inside these organizations is a deliberate attempt to radicalize them towards joining the NPA. Saying redtagging is an insult to the lives of the thousands of young lives they have destroyed.
Rest in Peace Hannah.
WPS is not the entirety of Philippines and China relations.
Happy Chinese New Year!!!
This greeting sparked another toxic exchange of social media postings about loyalty and allegiances. In Social Media, where people simply say whatever they want with little or no consideration for its implications it's easy to curse and say hateful things against another. This includes expressing their opinion on whatever it is that triggers them at that moment. And so wishing for a Happy Chinese New Year has suddenly become a sort of pledge of allegiance to China.
Why is this problematic?
Simply put: it is not true. China is still our biggest trade partner and we continue to have diplomatic relations with them. The brave social media warrior will say:
"That is the problem, we continue to be friends with them despite their actions in the #WestPhilippineSea."
Again, that is easy to say for someone who has no responsibility for running this country. We must remember that diplomacy is not a simple light switch that can be turned on or off. In the grand scheme of things, all our actions have implications. That is exactly the reason why our leaders continue to call for sobriety among our people and trust that this government is addressing this concern. As our President has put it:
"I will not preside over any process that will abandon even one square inch of the territory of the Republic of the Philippines to any foreign power."
What should a responsible Filipino for the meantime?
There may be so many things but I can only think of two. First is to support the government and second, is to educate yourself with information about our position on the WPS.
Calling out somebody for wishing a Happy New Year to our Chinese friends does not contribute anything to asserting our position on the issue. Actions like that may even contribute negatively to our position.
In a time when our country is facing challenges as a nation, the best thing to do is to rally behind your country and your countrymen. More than ever we need to be together as Filipinos to be able to win over whatever obstacle.
Happy Chinese New Year to all.
Gong Hei Fat Choi!!!
ARROGANCE
This is a screenshot from a video recovered from NPAs. Even at the peak of the NPA's strength, they were unable to provide firearms to all their combatants, actually most of them do not have firearms. In the same light that MAJORITY of NPAs who surrender do so without firearms.
It is quite arrogant to claim to know the workings of the world's longest running insurgency more than somebody who spent the best years of his life protecting this country from them. Much worse, insinuate corruption just because only 4,000 firearms were surrendered by 26,000 Former NPAs all over the country.
It is also in bad taste to conclude corruption just because it does not make sense to you.
God Bless the Philippines!!!
