At its April 16, 2025 Board meeting, the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona (WIFA) approved grants for 24 projects totaling $14.6 million, the full amount available in the second round of Water Conservation Grant funds. There were sixty-six applications.

The Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona (WIFA) Board has approved an additional $14+ million funding cycle for its Water Conservation Grant Fund – many thanks to the AZ Legislature for that. The previous funding cycle distributed $200 million for water conservation.

The AZ WIFA Board has adopted a resolution to amend its Water Importation Project (WIP) Solicitation to modify certain minimum qualifications in response to questions from potential proposers. Initial Qualification Submittals for the WIP has been extended to February 6, 2025.

I'm sure many firefighters have thought "I wish there was a way to train without wasting all this water." This @ArizonaWIFA grant allows water used during training to be conserved without diverting operating funds from the Fire Dept.

Nice morning to attend a demo of the @ElMirageArizona innovative Direct Recycling Apparatus Firefighter Training and Sustainability (DRAFTS) unit. Critical firefighter training can occur without wasting water. A water conservation grant from @ArizonaWIFA made this possible.

WIFA had the privilege to see another one of our conservation grant sites in person yesterday! In partnership with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, the Colorado River Indian Tribe Farm was able to install $3M of gravity-fed N-Drip micro irrigation in cotton and alfalfa.

The AZ state budget passed last week eliminated the 3rd funding installment for the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority and swept most of the partial funding from last year, leaving less than half of the original 2022 commitment to funding water supply augmentation projects.

WIFA will Cary on, but the job will be more difficult. Funding at the original $1 billion level would have required significant leverage of funding from the private sector; now that leverage will need to more than double, potentially increasing cost and risk.
