Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) attended the opening session of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit today, September 12, 2026. The Prime Minister travelled to New Delhi, India, to attend the summit, which is being held under the theme "Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability."

On its opening day, discussions centered on the principal topic of "Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateral Cooperation." The summit emphasized that global governance systems need to ensure inclusive, balanced participation and fair distribution of benefits for all nations. Furthermore, as this coalition marks its 20th anniversary, it is being highlighted that BRICS will work over the coming years to become a more structured platform, strengthening multilateral cooperation to ensure equitable, participatory, and inclusive outcomes.

In his address, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized the vital necessity of building resilience and integrating it into governance systems proactively to the onset of crises. He noted that such robust system building enables Ethiopia to remain steadfast through challenging circumstances. The Prime Minister highlighted key milestones, including Ethiopia achieving food self sufficiency by ending reliance on imported wheat, integrating domestic production of pharmaceuticals into its preventive health policy, advancing digital transformation alongside secure usage, and constructing the Medemer Artificial Intelligence University to meet the continent's growing demand for research, development, and innovation. He expressed Ethiopia's strong commitment to working alongside BRICS member states across these and similar development partnerships.

On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) held fruitful bilateral discussions with leaders of member and partner states. These high-level talks focused deeply on potential collaborations regarding investment, regional affairs, technology transfer, capacity building and skills development, tourism, mineral resource development, and collaboration in preparation for COP32.

Ethiopia’s tangible achievements in artificial intelligence and digital system reforms, renewable energy expansion, industrial infrastructure development, agricultural transformation for food security, and its world class international airline position the country to serve as a leading actor on key discussion topics raised within the coalition.

I had the opportunity to meet with President Vladimir Putin as well today for a constructive discussion on strengthening the strategic partnership between Ethiopia and Russia.

Our discussions reaffirmed our shared commitment to advancing cooperation across key areas, including defence and security, trade and investment, education, and technology. We also explored opportunities to expand educational exchanges and deepen collaboration in cultural and people-to-people ties.

We further discussed strengthening our cooperation on climate and development priorities, including collaboration toward COP32, while working together to expand mutually beneficial trade and economic exchanges.

Today, I oversaw the signing of a landmark Framework for Cooperation between the National Bank of Ethiopia and the IFC to establish our country’s first dedicated Mortgage Refinance Company.

Capitalized at 100 Billion ETB, with the IFC set to contribute a minimum of $200 million, this wholesale institution will resolve long-standing liquidity mismatches in our banking sector and unlock accessible mortgage financing across Ethiopia.

This partnership is a critical step toward realizing our goal of delivering 1.5 million affordable, dignified homes for Ethiopian families while expanding private-sector participation in our financial system. Ethiopia continues to build a modern, resilient, and inclusive economy.

በ12ኛ ክፍል ሀገር አቀፍ ፈተና የአዲስ አበባ ከተማ አስተዳደር 32 ነጥብ 3 በመቶ ተማሪዎችን በማሳለፍ 1ኛ ደረጃን ይዟል።

የዛሬ 12 ዓመት ያቋቋምነው የኦሮሚያ ልዩ አዳሪ ት/ቤት ዘንድሮም ያስፈተናቸውን ተማሪዎች 100% ማሳለፍ የቻለ ሲሆን የዚሁ ተምህርት ቤት ተማሪ የሆነው ጃለላ ግርማ ኩሳ 591.6 ወጤት በማምጣት እንደ ሀገር ከፍተኛ ነጥብ በማስመዝገብ አንደኛ ወጥቷል።

በከተማ አስተዳደራችንም የእቴጌ መነን የሴቶችና ገላን የወንድ ተማሪዎች አዳሪ ትምህርት ቤቶችን ጨምሮ 24 ትምህርት ቤቶች ያስፈተናቸውን ተማሪዎች 100 ፐርሰንት ማሳለፍ ችለዋል፡፡
በሀገር አቀፍ ደረጃ በማህበራዊ ሳይንስ ከሴት ተማሪዎች መካከል ከፍተኛው ውጤት 569.1 ያመጣችዉ በከተማ አስተዳደሩ ከሚገኘው ከቦሌ ሱፕር ሆሊ ሴቪየር ት/ቤት ተማሪ መቅደላዊት ሱራፌል ማሞ ነች።
