@JacobinMatrix@edencrosss@brutalreggie +in what world would someone who hasn’t even been to argentina know more about argentina than actual argentinians? this debate can’t be “genuine” if you’re convinced social media and foreigners know our history and culture better than the people who actually live here.
@JacobinMatrix@edencrosss@brutalreggie one more video of hers, someone who truly experiences life in argentina as a black woman, someone who has studied her country’s history during all school years, because that’s what we do here+
@JacobinMatrix@edencrosss@brutalreggie reducing centuries of demographic change to “the argentina model” is a slogan, not a historical argument. you can disagree with the interpretation, but you can’t replace evidence with sarcasm
@JacobinMatrix@edencrosss@brutalreggie wars, epidemics like yellow fever, the end of the slave trade, intermarriage as i said, and later immigration all shaped argentina’s demographics. history has multiple causes, not just one +
@JacobinMatrix@edencrosss@brutalreggie that’s why our demographics developed differently. acknowledging racism where it exists is important, but reducing centuries of history to “argentina erased black people” is simply not what happened.
@JacobinMatrix@edencrosss@brutalreggie later, millions of immigrants arrived from europe fleeing poverty, famine, political instability, and later wars, looking for a new life. argentina continued welcoming immigrants from many other parts of the world as well +
@edencrosss@brutalreggie if u dismiss the words of a black argentine woman, then u dont care about racism or black people. u only care about black americans and finding something to farm likes on twitter
@frenco47@Cafe2039249 historia falsa? anda a leer un libro de historia, no es muy difícil. soy hija de argentinos, nací en argentina y me eduqué en argentina, por eso mismo conozco la historia de mi país.
exactly. if u dismiss the words of a black argentine woman, then u dont care about racism or black people. u only care about black americans and finding something to farm likes on twitter
I saw people saying she's not fully black, as if that somehow erases her life and experiences as an Afro-Argentine. As a mixed-race person, I find that incredibly frustrating because people are always trying to invalidate our identities and our experiences.
@TEALridgeway@WICKEDMINYARD because of stereotypes and viral misinformation. you also keep saying “argentina denies it,” but you’re treating 47 million people as if they all think the same. plenty of argentines openly acknowledge racism, discuss it, and criticize it. what many of us reject is having+
