👀The Electoral Commission give Democracy Volunteers access to polling stations at election time. Only they and the police can go inside. They’ve just issued this report about “family voting” in Gorton and Denton:

Democracy Volunteers deployed four accredited election observers across the Gorton and Denton Westminster Parliamentary By-election today. The team attended 22 of the 45 polling stations in the constituency, spending between 30 and 45 minutes in each.

The observers worked in pairs using the international standard for election observation - the four eyes principle. Each team assessed several aspects of the polling process, from accessibility to issues around the integrity of the vote.

Staff were welcoming to the team and we would like to thank them for their time in accommodating our work.

The team assessed two significant aspects of electoral integrity - family voting (where two voters either confer, collude or direct each other on voting) which breaches the secret ballot. The team also assessed the impact of the requirement for voters to show ID before they are issued with a ballot paper.

2023 saw the enactment of the Ballot Secrecy Act, which made the practice of family voting more clearly a breach of the secret ballot, making it more enforceable by staff in polling stations. Signage is now available to discourage the practice. Signage was only seen in 45% of the polling stations observed.

The observer team saw family voting in 15 of the 22 polling stations observed, some 32 cases in total, nine cases in one polling station alone. The team observed a sample of 545 voters casting their votes - meaning 12% of those voters observed either caused or were affected by family voting.

Commenting John Ault, Director of Democracy Volunteers said;

‘Today we have seen concerningly high levels of family voting in Gorton and Denton. Based on our assessment of today’s observations, we have seen the highest levels of family voting at any election in our 10 year history of observing elections in the UK.’

‘We rarely issue a report on the night of an election, but the data we have collected today on family voting, when compared to other recent by-elections, is extremely high.’

‘In the other recent Westminster parliamentary by-election in Runcorn and Helsby we saw family voting in 12% of polling stations, affecting 1% of voters. In Gorton and Denton, we observed family voting in 68% of polling stations, affecting 12% of those voters observed.’

The team also observed cases of voters being turned away, however, in each case this was due to them not being a registered voter for Westminster elections, such as having EU citizenship, and only being allowed to vote in local elections.

The team also saw a number of voters taking photographs of their ballot papers and one voter being authorised to vote despite them already having been marked as voted earlier in the day.

Democracy Volunteers has informed elections staff at Manchester City Council about our findings today.

A message for Reform members. I believe that you are good, decent, honest people who want the best for our country.

I campaigned alongside many of you, I considered many of you friends. I still do.

But after hearing Farage’s attacks on me today?

I simply do not believe that supporting the current Reform leadership is why you got into politics.

A party of Robert Jenrick - a man who has a track record of importing endless Afghans, spreading illegals around the country and expanding our vile migrant hotel industry.

A party of Nadhim Zahawi - someone who wanted to force that COVID vaccine on the healthy population against their will. He wanted to allow children to overrule their parents to get the jab. He proposed an illegal migrant amnesty, supported BLM, he argued that immigration is positive because it means Somalians in Britain can send money back to Somalia.

Really? Do you really want to campaign to put these people back into Government? The same people who decimated our country and ground it into dust? Along with the dozens of other failed Conservative MPs now wearing a turquoise rosette?

And Farage himself.

I once thought he was the man to lead us. I honestly did.

And then the Reform leadership tried to put me in prison. I would be there today if they had their way. Rotting away, possibly dead thanks to the Muslim gangs that now run our jails.

Why did they do it? He just admitted today that it was because I wanted to deport foreign rape gang members and their complicit family members. Not for the supposed crime, but for that.

They abused the justice system to imprison me because I wanted the mass deportation of animalistic savages who gang-raped young girls, and those who enabled it.

They tried to ruin my life because I advocated for that. To take me away from my family, my wife, my children, my grandchildren. Because I spoke of those deportations.

My family home was raided by armed police at 9pm on a Friday night because of what they did. Do you trust these people? Honestly?

If you agree with those actions, then Reform is the party for you.

If you want to build a better party, an honourable party, a decent party?

We will not get everything right, mistakes will be made. But I will promise you one thing.

All of these are questions that whoever conceived and green-lit this statement probably should’ve considered further.

It is not racist, hateful, or bigoted to disapprove of a soulless corporation trying to jam a sanitised socio-cultural history ‘lesson’ into its advertised function.

Twitter blew this out of proportion and grossly misrepresented Jelly’s point - but among fans the point of contention was always clear: would you trust Minecraft, Mojang and Microsoft to teach your kids history? Jelly didn’t and many of us agreed.

The two “sides” in this now-Streissanded debacle are not “peace and love” vs “racism, hatred and bigotry.”

They are: “people who don’t trust soulless corporations with their kid’s education and possible development of political consciousness” vs “people who will pretend to trust soulless corporations with their kid’s education and possible development of political consciousness for the sake of winning an imaginary argument.”

This statement was guaranteed to piss off every fan and spectator who would’ve fallen into the first camp. This statement was written for and/or by those who fall into the latter.

Phase Connect’s growth is going to be dependent on the ability to separate feedback from noise. The larger Phase is, the more noise will begin to surround it and its talents.

Phase’s prior obscurity meant that, previously, ignoring both was a viable strategy. This is the first time the company has tried separating the two and dealing with it accordingly - but they lost the 50/50 when it comes to interpreting what the correct categorisation was.

Whatever Phase Connect’s “internal review” consisted of, it either looked at and prioritised the wrong datasets to gauge fan sentiment or it wasn’t basing its decisions off of fan sentiment at all and was working of of public sentiment instead. Fan sentiment is harder to gauge but more stable once you get it right; public sentiment is easier to gauge but just as easily astroturfed.

Either way, the “internal review” made a preventable misstep. If this were to happen again, fans would inevitably start to question whether Phase is actually built to handle being bigger than it already is.
